If your going to look at the D100 you might also want to look at the Fuji S2.  It also uses Nikon lenses.  We have been pretty happy with ours.  The Nice thing about the S2 and cameras is the felxibility.  They are pro cameras after all.  I can make out S2 as manual as my K1000.

Do you have a pro lab?  You might want to see what Digital camera they suggest.

One thing more about digital.  As much as we like our S2 it is the cutting edge of technology and that edge cuts both ways.  Most pros say it takes a year our longer to become any where near as proficiant with digital as you are with film.  We have had our S2 for ten months and we are just now starting to get somewhat comfortable with it.

We have sold a number of digital images that our customers are very satisfied with but took much more extra work to get right than a film image.  We still use film for weddings using the digital only for candid and photojournalist type shots.

Digital is also addictive.  When you get use to that preview immage you will find yourself turning your film camera over expecting to see your shot on the back.  Oh the dissapointment.

Actually, after much consideration, I've decided on the F717. If I'm going to go around town on a real shoot, I'll be using my film camera as I'm looking to do enlargements... massive ones. This camera will mostly be for web-based stuff and minis. Nothing I'll be even printing out most likely. While the flexibility of the lenses and such is nice, if I want to go spend that money on something that does what my film camera does, then I'm going to want the camera to do film at the same time it does digital.

Now an affordable camera that does that would be WELL worth it.  :D
