bettagirl
Some friends and I have started a Descent campaign. And we all agree that the plastic minis are less then pretty. So, I have taken it upon myself to paint up our characters and, the lieutenants that we will be facing with Reaper minis. Here is the 1st lieutenant, Sir Alric Farrow. C&C are welcome.
Wilwarin
Fantastic job! The tusks on his helmet look amazing! :)
demonelf3
Great choice of colors. Is the game descent: journeys in the dark? If so, great game.
bikerdrew
More nice work. The axe could use a wash to bring up the detail a bit.
DFo
Descent campaign! I'm jealous. Suitably ominous fig (what? no pastel colours at all?!?) Are you washing your copper/bronzes with something there?
bettagirl
Thanks for the compliments! @ demonelf3- We're playing the expansion, Road to Legend. Way fun! @ bikerdrew- Ya, the pic doesn't show very well. I basecoated w/ 9052: Shadowed Steel, went over the details w/ 9053: Honed Steel then highlights w/ 9054: Polished Silver. The detail shows better in person. @ DFo- Nope, sorry no pastels this time! And no washes on him either. Just a basecoat of 9102: Coppery Orange, w/ a drybrush of 9049: Ancient Bronze, and a very slight highlight of 9151: New Gold

I posted a tutorial in the Shutterbug forum explaining how I take my photos with my digital SLR. I don't know if you'll find it helpful, but there you have it. Nice job on this fig, BTW! joshuaslater
Great painting. It sells the figure as a better proportioned Chaos Warrior. I'd like a better pic, with more lighting, just to see how good it is. If you look at enough photos of models over some years, you start being able to discern details even in the dimmer pics. I see clean painting in there.
Madog Barfog
Overall, very nice table top, but I would push the highlights more, especially on the metallics. I like to undercoat with a complimentary non-metallic color (probably orange in this case) and highlight in an exaggerated but otherwise normal fashion. Then I wash the item in thin metallic paint. It gives me a richer color and cuts down on the appearance of metallic flakes yet still leaves it with a metallic sheen, even after I dull coat. The wash brings the exaggerated highlighting back down to a normal level.
