pae
Hey kids. Believe it or not, I've been painting again over the past few weeks. And this time without drinking...much. I'm still trying to get the rust out of my system before I attempt anything 'serious', so I've been practicing. This is the third figure I've done in the past few weeks, and I'm fairly happy with how it all came out...except for the stupid big axe. Flat surfaces and NMM don't go together very well. I probably spent as much time on the axe as the rest of the figure. It'll do. This was a limited edition piece sculpted by Steve Buddle (under the SJB Studios banner) for CMoN. It's been neglected among the rest of my hoard of neglected minis for a few years now. Enjoy!
Brushmaster
Ooo , sweet mini and nice work but I know that's the way the weapon has been scupted but it seems a bit plain to me .
ixminis
Since you talked about wanting to liven up the axe: I'd freehand a pattern for her outfit then freehand a complimentary pattern on the axe as if it was bevelled into flat areas. Heisler
This one needs to be seen in person to really be appreciated. Her highlighting has definitely been washed out a bit in the photo. Her hair, in particular, is beautitully done. As for the axe, I would leave it the way it is, its such a large object that it any significant work on it would pull away from the miniature itself. Although I do like Michael's idea of the complimentary freehand between them but I would keep it subtle. Overall an excellent piece and its really good to see Phil painting again. DFo
That is one smooth and beautiful paint job. I even kinda like the axe deal. Can't wait to see your upcoming non-"rusty" stuff.
Sanael
Even though that axe looks like a pain to paint, this is better'n anything I'm painting now! Always a pleasure to see your stuff, Flynn. What's going on in that base? Are those cobbles integrated with her or did you make those happen?
kristof65
Overall an excellent piece and its really good to see Phil painting again. Ditto on both points
Rocky
Beautiful job. The blues and skin fade are awesome. Think the paint job on the axe is cool too, but it sorta reminds me of a huge bludgeoning/ piercing weapon rather than a cutting weapon. MamaGeek
She's beautiful! That's some incredibly smooth blending there, and your color choices are very pleasing. I'll be checking out your older posts for more inspiration.
pae
Thanks for the comments. A couple of notes -- I HATES me some freehand, but I probably should have done some on the axe at least. There's not a lot of cloth to put freehand on, but I suppose some tattoos might have worked. The cobbles on the base were sculpted--poorly--by me using Milliput. You can't see it in these pictures, but I followed the Jeremie advice that kept echoing in my head -- "more tones, more tones".
Wilwarin
I think she looks very stunning! I love how clean cut all the painting is, she's flawless. Very beautiful job!

Renowyth
I realize you're "rusty"...but you're at the point in painting where I'd like to be. She's absolutely beautiful. the sculpt of the axe is a hard one to paint, and you did a beautiful job. I would have tried to add something, and it would have come out terrible. Lovely.
