DavidVC04
I like his green cloak. WHat did you use for it?
demonelf3
Um, let's see... there are three sections. The top and bottom are the same, with a 75-25 mix of driftwood brown-shadow green. It was then highlighted with a mix of all the bright highlights, linen, ghost, and bloodless skin. It was shaded with brown and grey liners, thinly glazed on. The middle is the reverse, with 75 shadow green instead. It was highlighted with linen white and I have not yet shaded it. Stiches donen in linen white, studs in mithral silver. DavidVC04
Thanks for sharing! I wouldn't have considered those highlights.
demonelf3
Ok, I was very dissatisfied with the elves' side ground cover, so I mixed up a special flock (GF9). It was 33-33-33 Summer Flock Blend- Spring Undergrowth- and Meadow Blend. I wanted a very rich green because that's how moss looks, even in fall. Then I applied a layer of leaves on top, an d sealed it with a shot of matte medium. Then I used the still wet matte medium and adhered some unused chamomile tea to the top, for some twigs. Also got some grey artist's paper for the pics.
Pyreos
Oh man, that looks absolutely amazing. I wanna lay down on that rock xD. Are you going to do that to the other side as well, or just leave it barren? The one thing that really strikes me as being out of place are those white spots on the elven rock, especially at the bottom of the 2nd pic. Was that intended to be snow? demonelf3
Thanks Pyreos; no that white is a misdrybrush - I'll fix it, and thanks for alerting me. I will not do that to the other side, since the contrast is suppoosed to be evident.
JimL
That is a impressive project. Awesome skin tones on the troll.
demonelf3
Hey folks; man, it's been too long since my last update. The good news is, no much got done so no one missed too much. Been swamped with commissions and schoolwork. Anyway, here's the almost done troll. Still need to do his bracers and his torso. The bronze was done differently than on my troll axer, perhaps foolishly. BC Dwarf Bronze, shade with VMC smoke, highlight with burnished gold. The quiver was BC in chestnut, shaded with blue liner, highlighted in sunburst yellow. Umm... any question feel free to ask.
Jabberwocky
Great to see you back in action with this project! The troll is looking good--this new bronze recipe is sharp and pops nicely. My main crit would be on the quiver; the transitions are still a bit rough in places. The chickens look well done (HA!) but look similar in color to the quiver. Not necessarily a bad thing, just an observation. The rust on the spears still looks unnatural to me; I can see it fade as it nears the tip of the spear, but perhaps just a bit more so that it looks less abrupt. Does that make sense? demonelf3
Wow, I didn't even notice the similarity with the chicken. Now that's a great point. I think instead of repainting the quiver I'll glaze the chicken to differentiate. I'll also blend a bit better. As for the rust, I know what you mean, it sort of looks like rust and shadow blended, not just rust. Kudos to you on your amazing rust on your fig, what was your recipe for that? Thanks for the pointers.
Jabberwocky
Kudos to you on your amazing rust on your fig, what was your recipe for that? Glad you liked it. Undercoated/primered with black. Basecoat with RMS Dark Skin. Dapple on RMS Rust Brown with an old brush that I trimmed down. Dapple on RMS Clear Orange. Then dapple on whichever of those 3 to get the right look. I finalized the piece with some RMS Honed Silver on the edging. Obviously, this is best used on a heavily rusted piece with only a bit of metallic showing through. demonelf3
Right, even though the javelins are not quite so rusted, I will probably apply that to a degree. Update: There is no update. There will not be one for a week or two. I'll be in London. Thanks for looking everyone, I hope to have my inspiration back by then.
l33t ninj4
I like where this is going, but the Troll spearman looks like either he's holding his breath, is blushing or really has to fart and is holding it in. (because all the red on his face) But the idea is top notch and is comming together nicely.
demonelf3
XD, that description is awesome! No, that's how my trolls are painted. I also did my troll axer like that. Update: Troll Bouncer is Primed.
demonelf3
Man it's been like two months, Here's an update, with an almost finished Meridh, a warlord figure. I think his dyanimc pose will make him a great counterpart for the troll bouncer (more on that later). The pics came out really bad, but that's what I get for not taking pics in two months. Any comments are welcome.
