Dragon Snack
One improvement I might make would be to add a new forum exclusively for people to ask for critique. I like this idea... Not too keen on more forums though, I actually wish we could make some disappear (you can collapse some, but not all of them).
Heisler
I don't even think that is necessary. People are pretty good about asking for critiques when they want them an additional category seems unnecessary even for that.
pae
I seem to remember when I first started posting here that critiques were implied when you posted in the Show Off section. Then someone got their feelings hurt, and the people who were posting the most helpful critiques (to me, at least), stopped posting. Now it seems like getting a solid critique here is like pulling teeth.
Jabberwocky
Now it seems like getting a solid critique here is like pulling teeth. Agreed. I like the mixed Show Off as well, but I have a pretty broad taste in minis and paint CAV, chronoscope, DHL, and OPP. For me at least, a well painted mini is a well painted mini, no matter what type it is. Techniques carry across category lines as well, so it's nice to see some gemwork or weathering on a DHL mini that could be utilized on a CAV. joshuaslater
Solid reasoning. It appears having it all in the Show Off section really is for the best. I can always put the pics into my own computer, in different sections, to shamelessly copy the techniques and color schemes I like. There's so much good stuff around here. I'm struggling painting my CAVs, but painting is painting, and anything I see can be applied to them. As for the critique subject, I missed the boat on that entirely. I know there is some talk about it, but that's for another day.
Sergeant_Crunch
Completely dead? RoTD is coming. CAV is still going, as I struggle to paint mine. Sidebar: CAVs are not easy to paint!!!!!!! I like your breakdown: DHL/Warlord/Fantasy Chronoscope/RotD CAV. Three could work. Wait, we'd still need a "Froggy Gallery" I'm solidly in the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" camp. 1) Kit has enough to do without creating sub-forums and going ALL the way back to the beginning of the message board and placing threads in the right forum (which I'm not sure he'd be able to automate, which even if he could, he'd have to take the time to figure out the best way to do it) 2) I'd probably not check the fantasy forum and miss a bunch of cool painted minis because with the mixed thread if I see a painter I know does good work, a new person posting here for the first time, or a subject line that catches my interest I'll click the link. If they were separated I wouldn't check the fantasy forum because all other things being equal, I prefer Sci-Fi. I know there are people that feel the same way about fantasy. 3) The fantasy forum would see a heck of a lot more activity. CAV models get posted usually about every 1~4 weeks. It is rare that a day goes without a fantasy model being posted. Chronoscope minis have been posted with less frequency than CAV, and I've only seen a couple RotD mini threads. I wouldn't hold your breath on RotD, though when it does hit I'm sure there'll be a marked uptick in the amount of WWWII mini threads. It's not that CAVs are difficult to paint, you just have to approach them differently. If you (not you joshuaslater specific you, but a generic you who have started painting CAVs) haven't yet, there are several threads with advice on painting them. You may have to search a bit though, as I think it's been a while since one of those threads popped up. There's also some articles in "The Craft" that deal with the subject. MamaGeek
The only thing I'd like to see in the Show-Off forum is fewer pinned threads. When a lot of painted figures get posted at once, you can miss them, because they fall off the first page, due to the high number of pinned threads that take up the space at the top. Can we move the Baby Pictures somewhere else, and put the link to the Criticism article in the Forum Guidelines thread, so we can get rid of that one? ladystorm
four pinned topics really isn't a high number. I did link the Criticism article and moved Baby Pics to OTR.
MamaGeek
four pinned topics really isn't a high number. I did link the Criticism article and moved Baby Pics to OTR. That was fast! I know 4 is not a lot, but that forum is so active, it does cut into the number of new threads you can see. Thanks so much!
SOldcorn
This would be totally irrelevant to me I only ever look at the "View new posts" option and then look for titles that sound interesting.
kristof65
Since I mainly use the "view new posts" feature, I sometimes barely notice which sub-forum a particular thread is in. However, from experience on other forums where I haven't signed up, and can't use that feature, I won't go browsing through a bunch of subforums unless I'm interested in their supposed content. The single forum here makes it more likely that I'll look at things i normally wouldn't. I don't know if it's possible, but one thing that would be nice for the show off forum is if the thread title or sub-title could somehow "force" (more like encourage, I guess) a certain format. Thread titles like Ready for our Next Adventure and Who stole my saltshaker? are great for getting my attention. Thread titles like My first mini are used so often that I tend to ignore them. But neither type of thread title is good when you're looking for examples of specific miniatures. Now most of the people around here are good at putting the info in the title, the sub-title or within the thread itself, so forum searches are generally helpful in that regard - but there are a few people who simply don't (and I'm probably guilty myself) or forget to provide that info. Qwyksilver
four pinned topics really isn't a high number. I did link the Criticism article and moved Baby Pics to OTR. The baby pics thread will no longer allow people to add pictures, since you can't in OTR. I think that was why it was originally in Show off, since it allowed attached pictures, and was for people to show off their kids.

I think that was why it was originally in Show off, since it allowed attached pictures, and was for people to show off their kids. That's a good point. It sounds like either OTR needs upload permission, or the thread needs to go back into Show Off.
bikerdrew
I think it's great that the post in the 'show-off' forum are of miniatures from all over the place. Sure, I love Reaper figures - but it's great to see all the other stuff that's out there. That's one of the reasons I like this forum so much. Where else can I see CAV (which I don't collect - but like looking at all the great painting anyway), WW2 artillery, intergalactic marines and Elven archers all in one place? Please don't split the forum down.
Wowahboy
I appreciate when the mini is clearly identified in the title of the show off post. Oops, I don't always do that.
