Anti-Paladin,

I've been hanging out on the boards but never had a camera to post any of my work. I just got one and thought I would try to put a couple up. This is the Anti-Paladin, Brom the Barbarian, and Darbin the Deadly. The Anti-Paladin and Brom were my first two since my dad and I used to do it when I was in elementary school. Darbin was a couple years later. I don't get to paint very often and my space to do it in stinks so my skills are regressing a bit. Also, I'm not much for basing as I intend to war game with them at some point. Enjoy and tell me what you think.

Thanks for the comment. Neat is really my main goal at this point. I'm working up to highlighting. I've tried it on a couple of models with some success. I really dont't mix paint, just work with it straight out of the pot for the most part. I do washes from time to time but have messed them up more then being succesful I think.

They are based on fender washers at the moment. I think that's how they are going to stay since I based my entire collection on them just about. But I do understand what you mean by them being neater on a a standard base.

Any recomendations for highlighting black? Especially on hair?

Darbin is a little fuzzy but looks to be my fav of the three!

You mention painting straight out of the pot? Being neat is a start, and thinning the paint a little to get smoother layers is a good next step.

I do thin, I didn't mean it quite literally. I meant that I don't usually mix colors to get different tones. Just can't seem to do it the same way twice. I usually have a lot of time between the chances I get to work on them.

Darbin is horribly fuzzy. Need to work on the photo skills a bit. He's one of my favorites too.

Highlighting black can be tricky. Go and put some scrunches in a black t-shirt or similar item and look at the way light effects it - paying attention to the flat areas, ridges and folds. You will notice that the flat areas don't look black - more like very dark grey, so start with that. Then put a thinned black wash in to the folds to make them look black - the side of the fold further away from the light should be darker. The ridges will look like a lighter grey - so that is where to put the most highlight. The problem is, that with miniatures being so small, all of this detail needs to be exaggerated to show-up - this can make it look a bit 'fussy'. Another other method (one I tend to use more often) is to just use solid black over the whole bit and just highlight the ridges with grey - your eye will fill in the rest for you.

Bikerdrew, I did the method you said you use more often on another model. He was grey and I used a lighter grey on the ridges. I kind of liked how that turned out. I wasn't sure how well that would work with black though. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the suggestions.

i read that it is a good idea to have a note pad and mark what paints u use on models in case you want to mix and if you decide later to build an army around a certain figure and color scheme.
