haldir
So counter says 33 days & counting till RCON starts (Always gotta take off 2 or 3 days from the counter, as that is when my "RCon" starts). How's everyone as far as their projects for the Con?? painting-wise---eh not so good. Last month I was really into painting figs & such, getting the groove back, but lately nothing. I hope to get at least 2 (1 for sure) into the contest & this time not a squirrel!! metal turn in--Well since this is probably going to be where I get most of the new thingees to go oooo ahhhh over, I've been going through a bunch of figures & such that either say "I don't like you no more. What was I thinking when I bought this or I'll never get around to painting this one. That & I've slacked in doing prep work on figures I've gotten lately. I guess it's a good thing I haven't bought any figures since I got a cheap golem off ebay in January. Everything set (hotel resv, plane ticket, stay over in Boise before the flight out, etc etc). So I'm good to go there at least. Now I just gotta pack. I better get started........
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted April 11, 2009 Moderator Share Posted April 11, 2009 Got plane tickets and accommodations. Mulling over my painting contest entries, the game I'm running, and what figures to bring.
Inarah
Got hotel reservations and class tickets. Have a baggie of old metal to trade in. Been saving sprue all year. Have a shopping list ready too :) Paint-wise, I have a figure prepped and primed, and some flesh color down, but I really need to finalize my color choices Soon . cutebutpsycho
Flight booked-know where I'm staying. I'll be flying in almost a week before the con to enjoy some of the other charms of the DFW area, so I'm getting ready for all of that too (which involves some sewing and leather work). One paint contest entry firmly done, the other one staring me down daily screaming PAINT ME NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rastl
I'm frantically painting up the models for my Warlord army and making the list of things I need to bring. Flight is booked, I've been lazy about the hotel and rental car.
Fruggs
I've got my travel lined up, Ill be driving down with a friend of mine, got my classes purchased, got my metal bag o bits to trade, got my accommodations... Paint wise I have a couple I have worked on throughout the year and have not showcased as per last years rules, and have one almost done, and have another two I would like to attempt but don't know if time will allow. I am excited to indulge for a weekend!
ixminis
I need to get some things out about what to bring to the classes I'm teaching... to give folks time to prep. Probably the dirty dirty mini class will need the most attendee prep work (basecoated minis)
All-Terrain Monkey
I'm still waiting on my plane ticket, train ticket, hovercraft voucher, and catapult to be sent to me, as well as still waiting to find out if they've built the tower with moat I requested as well. As always, I expect Reaper to let me down on all these counts yet again this year *sigh*. I'm still working on figuring out the minis I want to prep for my classes, much less actual contest entries. It'd be fun to actually enter the contest this year though.
Valloa
Hotel, pet kenneling, travel plans all good and done. Need to repoke someone at Reaper about the turn in on the free admissions from the auction or figure out if I need to buy tickets instead. painting wise...eww just barely started on a few things, but thats not unexpected. A toddler that only sleeps 3 hours a day means careful time budgeting, which of course, only works if you are well and the pets don't have emergencies. I'm glad I like challenges cause getting something done by then will be but I can't go and not enter the paint contest! Metal turns ins I still need to mull over the figs but have the spare or mutalited metal ones ready to go. Swag I have to get together still. It'd be fun to actually enter the contest this year though. Don't worry, John. I can come pick you up if you want. Though I imagine Anne can drag you in. If none of those come through, I'm sure Leo is big enough by now to be your epic mount. And you? Contest entries? I think I might faint. As for me, I've picked out the minis I'll be prepping for my class, but waiting for them to be delivered to me. I've made a long list of stuff to pack up in my car. Whether it will all actually fit into my car is a different story entirely. I've made decent progress on my two planned entries, but I've been procrastinating about the bases (which are not my strong suit).
Maltique
Hotel booked, classes and registration bought, gas money saved... i bing my paints, and they don't allow them on a plane. I tried once, and got in some trouble :) I have actually made some really good progress on my entries. I have a few that I really like from earlier in the year. I will probably bring those instead of painting especially for the con.
Flit
Let's see: Con ticket- check Class tickets-mostly check Remove tape from dead VCR for Froggie-nope Hotel- knew there was something I forgot to do before falling asleep last night Contest mini- mostly prepped, waiting for days off at end of next week to start up on again- but then was suddenly seazed by great idea for a dioramma with chosen mini involving a mini (kinda expensive) I have on order waiting to be shipped. But then I thought about some Reapers I already have that might work........did I mention this is all 54mm? And I reeeeleey want something in the contest this year just to see what they think. Turn in metal: I went through my collection last summer and pulled out all the duplicate minis and others I decided I would never get around to painting. Now I just need to throw them in the cleaner to get the ink I put on them off. And now Michael says I need a basecoated mini- does that mean colors and everything? Shadows? Highlights? pae
I think Michael is basecoating the minis.
ixminis
Hey T: It won't be a requirement, but it will be a suggestion to bring a mini that you want to soil/dirty up. In the class, we'll talk about the options you have when planning a dirty mini. Quicker: do the soiling/aging/texture colors as you paint from base-coat to highlight. Usually slower, but sometimes better results: Do at least a rough base/mid/highlight then dirty it up and touch up the shading/highlighting. So, your call on bringing a mini (or two or ... ) that you'd like to see soiled/faded/bruised etc. I do have a few of the ones that I base-coated for last years class (I really had too many for just that one class). I'm debating doing some pre-weathering/soiling/aging etc. on 'em to pass around as examples... I should probably dig in my closet for some of those old faded shirts I've had for 10+ years... Flit
Got my hotel reservation! I'll have too see if I have any half started minis that will work. I have a half started elf- but I don't think elves get dirty.
