How do you get these bases?

Recommended Posts

I really would like to know how you get these type of bases?

I need one for an original square warhammer base

Is there a particular place you buy them from or do you have to make them?

If you have to make them I'd really appreciate if you could tell me how please :)

Lurker, if you checked out the site you would see he hasn't updated it since 2007-09. Not exactly current stuff.

I know there's a few people on the forums at CMON who sell bases and I thought Armorcast did as well but their site is having technical difficulties.

I've seen them pretty "cheap" at craft stores like Michaels. I wouldn't buy a toy chess set just to saw them off though -_- it seems like it would be a waste of money and a lot more work.

I'd probably go with just buying the bases to save on all that, but that's just me.

Cheap chess/checker sets a Wal-Mart cost a few bucks. Plus, you get to keep the checker set in the bargain.

The tops of the check pieces would make interesting terrain features, too. You could use the king as a tombstone, for instance. Hmmmm...the creative juices are flowing!

http://www.dragonforge.com/ makes really nice custom bases. He used to do wooden ones and still may, although his site is favoring resin currently. Contact him if you don't see exactly what you are looking for, I like his customer service.

EDIT: I just looked at the miniaturebases.com page. I would contact Wayne first, but if he doesn't respond, anyone with a wood lathe can make one for you. His base is a piece of wood (in this case "Gaboon Ebony") that has been turned on a lathe, sanded, and perhaps finished with oils or lacquer. A high school wood shop class will have the equipment; you can get hardwoods at a lumber yard (although you're probably not likely to find Gaboon Ebony very easily!).

Didn't a forum member (can't recall his site or name but his avatar was a red, white & blue "patriotic" skull) offer those along with the other basing mats he made?

RM

"Skullcrafts" if I recall correctly; he does deal primarily in basing and basing materials, but I don't remember what he specifically carries.
