Beowulfthehunter
I use a great deal of RMS paint, however I hate the bottles for one reason. The nipples are very weak. If I use any pressure to de=clog them with a paperclip they break around the rim and push in. This does block the flow of paint, but they then tend to squirt out at the sides and not the tip. The nozzles just cannot take the abuse. Does Reaper sell extras? Has anyone expiereinced this? I only bring this up because I also use VMC and VGC and those nipples take a huge amount of abuse. I poke them and prod them but they keep their shape. But with RMS I have no luck. And I just realized if we were not talking about paint this thread would go great in another "type" of forum. Hadier
Thats strange i use a piece of steel wire to clear them with and they don't get damaged at all. How many of your bottle do this? when did you buy them? i am thinkin mabey you got a bad batch of nipples just like models, paint, plastic can have bad batches too but i would like to hear a reps take on this mabey they are using a new company for them
MamaGeek
I have trouble with Reaper bottle tops, too. I bought an empty one I use just for water, and it leaks like crazy. I can't even use the nipple on my bottle of brush-on primer. I have to take the nipple off and just pour the primer onto a surface to use it. No amount of unclogging with various pointy bits could get the top of that one clear.
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted May 27, 2009 Moderator Share Posted May 27, 2009 Sometimes I have to take the nipple out and fish around in it with a paperclip to get a skin of paint out of it - this is one where the pointy-bit plunger method just pushes the little flake of dried paint out of the nozzle, but it moves back as soon as the bottle is squeezed again. I'm not explaining well.
DavidVC04
I jam a pin vice drill into it and have no problems.
GreyHorde
I have only one that leaks out of 200+ bottles. I noticed it at the first squeeze, without ever unclogging the tip. Looked like a defective bit, with a pin-sized hole in the side. I replaced it with a top from an empty bottle, which in turn got a flat cap and distilled water. Maybe try a thinner paper clip - it shouldn't be so much work or damaging.
Wilwarin
I use a paperclip to clear mine and it seems to work much better than before. I had problems with the nipples when I started using the RMS paints, but once I started clearing it out it's gone much smoother (and I haven't worn a ton of paint since!!) I know that they sell empty squeeze bottles (that come with skulls! :D) so maybe you can try using those nipples?? I think I've seen them in AC Moore too, so Michaels may have them as well. vutpakdi
I bought a 100 or so dropper bottles from US Plastics. US Plastics also sell just the nipples I believe. I haven't had any problems with the MSP bottles/nipples, but I just use a medium sized safety pin to clear clogs. Ron
Rastl
I use a corsage pin (one of those long pins with the teardrop pearl at the end) when I'm painting away from home and a dissection needle (thanks Eastman!) when at home. Both of them have a bit more diameter than a paper clip and about 2 inches of push-power. I haven't had to open the bottles and work from the inside but there's a couple of bottles where I probably should.
All-Terrain Monkey
Hm, lessee... I've used a complete set of paint when they first came out, eventually made my way to a complete new set, used different batches of bottles since the second or third RCon or so at the Convention in classes and paint and take, and went through the stocks at Paint Club a huge chunk of Saturdays through the year. I use an old pin vice to clean the nozzle, by jamming it down all the way through and pulling it out. I have to say, out of the thousands of bottles I've unclogged, I've never seen a nipple break the way you have, Beowulf. Are you sure you're pushing straight downward, and not putting force to one side or the other?
dargrin
I have a couple of bottles that I cleaned out and this happened. I have found out that the size of the wire width inserted can make the rim around the nipple weak and evenually split. Thanks to Cher, I found that the easiest way is to fix it is to bring the bottle to the sink and gently pull the top off and rinse both the inside and outside of the tip with warm water. Flip the tip upside down with the tip on the counter top or sink. Ream out the hole with the paperclip or wire of your choice from the inside of the cap out twards the top of the cap. Once this is done I have had no problems with flow of paint from the bottle.
