Bearfoot_Adam
Yeah I'm slowly building up my force. I got all the bull orcs I want and it is time to diversify. IT will just happen more slowly then my initial purchases.
Stubbdog
Dont be afraid to proxy models you dont own. We all prefer to play with models we have available, but then we also almost always find army builds that we cant play if we stick to that. Especially when you play more than one army like I do. Angrydwarfguy
I'm just getting back into the game after being away for a bit and I had two questions. First can Reven still field swamp trolls. Also are their rules for using black orcs and or hobgoblins yet?
Stubbdog
1. No, the Reven do not have access to the Reptus River Troll data cards at this time. 2. The new Black Orc faction called the Kargir that will be a part of the Warlord 2 expansion book known as The Savage North, is currently in play testing. But it is open playtesting so if you are interested in help play test, then send an email to Gus at [email protected] giving him your information and requesting such. WizardOne
Is this the appropriate thread for posting a proposed Reven Army List? I have not played since WL1 . . . but wanting to get back into it. I've been building my collection though and I think I can field 1000-1500 points worth of genuine Reaper figs if I stick with a Reven Army. Shakandara
If you are looking to post a list for feedback, yes, this is just the place to do it for Reven. Fire away. ~v
WizardOne
Reven - 1000 points - wondering if this is any good: Troop 1 Hill Giant Nhoolyan, Hunting Beast x 2 Troop 2 Gnoll Archer Bloodmane, Gnoll Champion Bugbear Warrior x 2 Ombur Skulltooth, Bull Orc Ogg, Goblin Beastrider Troop 3 Nor'Okk, Ettin Orc Spearman x 5 Bugbear Warrior x 2 Goblin Skeeter x 4 Neek, Goblin This is what I came up with using the Armymaker. It's only known virtue is that it is *exactly* 1K points. The bolded models are definitely IN—they have paint on them. (Everybody knows painted models shoot / fight better ) Other than those two I'm not particularly married to this list. I've got some other options in the figure box, from memory: a harpy or two, some bull-orcs or plain orcs, more bugbears/gnolls, that big half-ogre guy, a couple more skeeters . . . I thought everything was a RM, but Ombur the Shaman would be a proxy rather than a Reaper Mini. And, I could field Vauraug by the same method. Bearfoot_Adam
Well there are a couple problems. The hunting beasts and the giant are all solo models so they each have their own initiative. No big really on that. Ogg has no space for elites in his troops so Omber and Bloodmane would need a new home. Lastly Neek is a leader so he can't be in someones troop. But that troop could be nicely split into two with each as a leader. Otherwise that's a healthy mix of models and abilities and could be fun to play. Let us know how it works out. Brushmaster
OK , for starter , as stated previously , the giant and hunting beasts are solos and therefore can not be in a troop together and must each have their own troop . Also , you now have 3 solos , which are illegal as you may not have more solos than standard troops ( i.e; ones led by a sergeant, capt, etc). Your troop#2 has no leader which is also illegal . You have to be careful when using the army builder as it does not do everything exactly correct as per construction via the rulebook . I suggest that you first select a leader for each troop , fill the troop out however you want , then select a solo for the next troop if so desired . Stubbdog
Using your exact same models, here is a legal list: Reven - 1000 points Troop 1 Nor'Okk, Ettin Bloodmane, Gnoll Champion Ombur Skulltooth, Bull Orc Gnoll Archer Bugbear Warrior x 2 Troop 2 Ogg, Goblin Beastrider Bugbear Warrior x 2 Orc Spearman x 3 Troop 3 Neek, Goblin Goblin Skeeter x 4 Orc Spearman x 2 Troop 4 Hill Giant Troop 5 Nhoolyan, Hunting Beast Troop 6 Nhoolyan, Hunting Beast Now, here is how I might suggest changing it up a little... Reven - 997 points Troop 1 Nor'Okk, Ettin - Armor of Courage, Bonesplitter Bloodmane, Gnoll Champion Gonda, Goblin Bugbear Warrior x 4 Harpy x 3 Troop 2 Ogg, Goblin Beastrider Goblin Beastrider x 3 Troop 3 Neek, Goblin Gonda, Goblin Goblin Skeeter x 4 Troop 4 Hill Giant Troop 5 Nhoolyan, Hunting Beast Other Luck Stone
Bearfoot_Adam
Yeah, Omber and bloodmane are your only elites so you have no worries on the number of leader led troops.
WizardOne
Thanks Guys, particularly Stubbdog. I was pretty sure I had messed up sorting them into Troops somewhere. Turns out it was just about everywhere. [ 6 Troops; think 6 Troops . . . ] As I inventory things more closely I am finding more adjustments I'll need to make. Like: I don't have that Goblyn-Wolfrider-Sgt. Ogg; I only have the PFC/regular trooper wolfrider. And there are these Skeeter Models that are identified on the Blister as "Blackfletch, Reven Adept" but there is a card inside that says "Goblin Skeeter". But they are the same model as the ordinary grunt GS. I guess that is all WLv1 nomenclature . . . One very nice thing about the ArmyMaker is that it kicks up the photo of the mini—this is a huge help in identifying models that have been long separated from their blisters. It is such a good app, as is, for making a figure inventory I kinda hope it is never updated with error checking for troop construction. Or, if it is hopefully you'd be able to toggle that off/on. Stubbdog
Well, that is the beauty of the Reaper proxy system. You dont have to have all of the exact models to be able to play them. Just close enough not to get too confusing for you or the other player. I have been playing for years and still have to proxy at least a couple models almost every game (because I like to play lots of different factions). Castlebuilder
And there are these Skeeter Models that are identified on the Blister as "Blackfletch, Reven Adept" but there is a card inside that says "Goblin Skeeter". But they are the same model as the ordinary grunt GS. I guess that is all WLv1 nomenclature . . . Reaper will choose the favorite of the three grunt models in a pack, give it a name, and release it for individual purchase. Blackfletch is probably one of those. WizardOne
I wandered out to Reaper Saturday for Paintclub and I doubled my inventory of painted Reven models. So, I now have a whopping 4 Reven minis with a paintjob. Troop ? Orc Speartroop x 1 Harpy x 1 Gnoll Archer x 1 Troop 4 Hill Giant The 'Harpy' is a proxy, he is really one of these guys: http://www.reapermini.com/FigureFinder#detail/02427
