CrispyMerc
I tried to be in the recieving end of the daisychain today. I got slaugthered, and it was only the first time my opponent tried it, and I had a feeling he could have used it in an even worse manner. It is an extremelely effective doctrine, and I have a feeling that this "thing" is too effective. In a 750point game a mercenary army has 3 rerolls instead.. not quite the same as "beaming" bigguys and friends 46-69 points to completely dominate movement seems way too cheap.. In my eyes the beam-show has made the game a very one sided event. It is ofcourse very demon-like to puff up in smoke, but seriously is this realistic to counter? To me it seems stupid that you get an autowin 95% of time because of a doctrine (the last 5% is unknown cheese)

Someone will get on here and say how Joshua has made a science of beating it. But the fact is that Joshua is an exceptional player and insider. While most of us are not, but no one can beat it unless they build specifically for it. Its like flying/swift attacks they can be countered but only with builds that are built especially for them, and in both situations the playing fields are just leveled a bit no advantage really goes toward the counter builds.
ktyler09
swift attack/First strike is another combo that is very broken in my opinion. You can effectivley kill just about anything in the game in one attack phase and never take a hit (if set up right) and then the first strike disallows tough checks to be made which makes no sense to me either. It is what it is and you just have to take it and try and figure out a way around it.
rgtriplec
It is what it is Which is broken.
psyberwolfe1
It is what it is Which is broken. It is not broken because it is beatable, and not by some game savant. Mine gets beaten regularly. Ddot
After a couple dozen 500 pt games, I've come to a few conclusions. Javolith is a solid captain-level leader. Good stats, tough/1, smite (good) and weaponmaster are a bargain at 55 pts. Hasn't disappointed me yet. D'Khul is da cool. Arcana and enchant tomes have some helpful spells, tactician is as beautiful as advertised, and his MAV SA's make him better-than-expected in hth. Broken fodder are a good way to bulk your numbers up on the cheap. They die easily, but at 7 pts per, that means your opposition isn't killing more imprtant models. Ice demons are solid, and with some good dice rolling, can be devastating in hth. A good addition to any troop imho. Marilith has been pretty cool after I took away her gruesome weapon. She generally kills anything I aim her at, although becomes squishy if I send her after too many models at once. Also makes a nice deterrnet- nobody wants to risk the wrath of 6 defensive strikes. Tends to get shot at. A lot.
Baphomet69
Here's a quick run down of what I think of the soldiers and how they will fit into Darkspawn 2.0. JDRipley did this in the Dwarves Thread, and I thought it was a good idea to continue it with other factions. If you've already looked at the dwarves line up, you'll already notice huge differences between the two. The darkspawn are stacked very heavily in specialist soliders. They are chaos on the battle field, and if you try to hold a line when playing with them you will not be playing to your strengths. [/indent] Would someone be willing to continue this for the rest of the DS forces?
joshuaslater
Upcoming list from an order I just placed today. Sigh. All Tentacles Darkspawn. Exactly 1000 points!!! Troop 1: Xeldorian--I've got the Warlord model but may use another beholder like aberration from DHL. Bathalian Centurian Bathalian Exarch x2 Demon Imps x5 -- using the lil' Cthulhu from the Hordlings DHL models!! Book of Tactics Troop 2: Bathalian Primarch Bathalian Exarch x2 Bathalian Centurian Book of Tactics Troop 3: Devourer of Mashaf Troop 4: Devourer of Mashaf
Shakandara
The list is obviously light on the model count, but seeing as all the Bathalians have a) a decent DV, b) immunity to Support, and c) Nauseating, those 3 factors should prevent you from getting swarmed too badly. Plus, they pretty much all have 3 attacks at a high MAV, so you should be cutting your opponents up pretty good. Add in Xeldorian's ranged abilities, the Imps to soak up some attacks, and the Mind Blast from the Devourers, and that's a pretty cool list. The only problem I see with it is that you have the Book of Tactics listed twice, and it is a Unique item. Only one per army, sorry. ~v
joshuaslater
D'oh!!!! That's ten points I can spend on something else. I came up with this list for coolness, but did arrive at the same conclusions you did tactically. Fewer data cards is a plus for me, as I'm not always the swiftest cat and my memory is like a sieve. Thanks again Shak.
Stubbdog
A slight variation of your list for your perusal: Darkspawn - 998 points Troop 1 Xeldorian, Tyrant of Darkness D'Khul, Bathalian Bathalian Exarch x 4 Demon Imp x 2 Troop 2 Bathalian Primarch Book of Tactics Bathalian Exarch x 2 Demon Imp x 2 Troop 3 Devourer of Mashaf Troop 4 Devourer of Mashaf ------------------------------------------------ 4 troops +2 tacticians +2 spies 16 models
Shakandara
It's actually scary sometimes how alike Jason and I can think. When reviewing your list and making my post, I contemplated firing up the Army Builder to see if I could offer an alternate build that included D'Khul. Every time I face the Darkspawn, that model is the proverbial thorn in my side. I eventually find a way to deal with him, but not before he has done his damage. The fact that he is also a Tactician is nice too. ~v
joshuaslater
I've got the model. He'll be primed and assembled a lil' faster now. I'm going to need one more Exarch after all. : ( I'll just use the Demon Imps to get the squad sizes correct. Thanks for the help gang. Stubbdog
I admit I just wasn't that thrilled by the DKhul sculpt. I prefer to use: http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/bath/latest/50224 as my DKhul.
