warlordgarou
OKay, so I didn't finish anything in my queue for May (and, to be honest, June probably won't do so well either), but I did knock these out: I'm not really happy with the spatter on the red ones, but these were a quick test, to see how quickly and easily I could make them. Arbiter10
These look pretty good. If I may ask, how did you make the lava?
warlordgarou
The lava (and the green goo) are Envirotex Lite, a pour-on, 2-part coating. It's clear (AFAIK) when dry, but I tint it with a couple of drops of paint - either green & yellow, or red & yellow. Add a drop or two at a time, and just keep mixing. While it was still wet, I dribbled in some Woodland Scenics coal into the lava, which gave me the rock color I wanted. I had to go back and add extra coal, since it did sink in a bit. Lyn
I like those crater bases! How did you make them?
warlordgarou
I like those crater bases! How did you make them? I did a rough cut to make squares a little larger than the CDs I was using for bases. Then, I punched out the center, and used a hot wire to cut the interior. Once they were cut, I glued a square of cardstock (3x5 index cards, I think) to cover the hole in the middle of the CD, and then used tacky glue to glue the rough crater on the CD. Once that glue dried, I cut the outside of the crater, using the CD base as a guide. (Looking over that, it's not very clear. I'll make a few more tonight, and take some WIP pics or something.) Mr.Wizard
I like the lava craters; the greys mixed in with the brown really work. Keep playing with the lava colors, I think you're onto something. Maybe a thicker envirotex mixture as well.
Lastman
Those sharp edged craters are the coolest I've ever seen. Coloration is great. Tut pls!
