kristof65
Get this: I was banished to the stockroom!!!!!! Apparently, having an artificial arm isn't in keeping with A&Fs "look"....

kristof65
I had to actually read the article to realize she had the artificial limb.

Qwyksilver
I see the issue more that she was unwilling to remove the cardigan than the fact that she has an artificial arm. She was given a uniform, and modified it. Just because her local branch manager approved it, means nothing if corporate says no. The guidelines say it can be modified within "the look" which, if it's summer, may preclude long sleeve, and determination of "the look" is clearly held to corporate's standards, not the individual employee or local manager. She'd have more of a case if she removed the sweater right then and there. The image person saw the arm, and then she was sent back to the storeroom. The article said she would be able to wear a long sleeve shirt again once the winter season was put out. I would never shop at A&F, but I don't find fault with them in this situation. kristof65
While you have a valid point Qwyk, I have issue with any company that makes rules like this so inflexible as to not be able to accomodate her situation. Especially AFTER they hired her.
Qwyksilver
They don't have to accommodate her. A short sleeve shirt does not prevent her from performing her work duties. The fact that she is suing them because her feelings were hurt is just another example of the waste of time and money on an already overburdened court system for such stupid, frivolous lawsuits. kristof65
Keep in mind it's the UK, not the US. Doesn't mean that it's any less frivolous, but different laws may apply. I still have an issue with the "look" policy and how A&F handled the entire situation. If the policy is that set in stone, permission should have never been granted to the girl in the first place to violate it. And the person who did grant her permission in defiance of corporate policy should also be losing their job. At this point, we're going to have to agree to disagree, and see what the court says. Mr.Wizard
I think she has an excellent case, and I hope she wins. Bloody 'ell.

bikerdrew
Obviously A&F need to do some equality and diversity training! I hope she sues the pants of them. I can't stand the fashion industry anyway.
papabees
I hope she wins because A&F uses soft porn to market to kids.
joshuaslater
If that's the case, you ain't seen my personal collection of adult viewing material. Their stuff ain't even on the chart.
Steel Rabbit
Tell me again why it was a good idea to send a girl with a fake arm into a stockroom? Don't those have shelves, and boxes? I needed help moving things in the back room at a Games Workshop, let alone a place with massive amounts of clothes. Frankly, I side with the girl who messes with A&F's rigid (tool-ish) company policy, than A&F.
Lyn
I think its terrible that they banished her to the stockroom because they felt that her prosthetic limb didn't fit their "look". She is a beautiful girl. It's not her fault that she was born without a left arm! I know for a fact that they only hire really thin and really pretty people at A&F. I knew some people that worked there in NYC and they look at how thin u are and stuff. I was a model in NYC and there were friends of mine that were from the same modeling agency and they couldn't even get a job there because either their look was either too exotic or whatever. It's just terrible.
