Savage North Expansion

Recommended Posts

Only summizing but with the influence and undertone intervention by the Malvernians in Craclaw , these look like a nother posible expansion faction . There are also several other provinces I know of off -hand that are also likely but who knows ? Breonne , Racheau and Ritterlich all have quite unique flavours that could be easily added . Black Legionaires , the Deathknight (02899) and (03109) , the Blackgaurd and several DHL character are all in the Malvernian mold . So many DHL figures that could be added in coming expansions but lets not speculate too much and just get started with Warlord 2 !!!!! ::D:

I just dug out the old Apocalypse book.

We've got Kjord, Kargir, Heimdall, Highlands, Vestonia, Anhur, Haldor, Free City of Farkeep, Okura.

There's a few major forests: Woodspike. Seems a likely home for the Elven offshoot.

Draketeeth Mountains seem a likely home for the Dwarven split offs - Fortress Kragmarr

Haldor sounds a lot like Gondor from LotR. Considered the best Light Cavalry in Adon. Would make an interesting faction.

Kagir is home to the Black Orcs.

Ritterlich would be cool. It's ruled by a vampire, so there could be some nice fluff for their involvement. Perhaps Gabriel Darkblood wants to wrest control of the Font from Judas. It's pretty vampire heavy, much more so than the Necropolis. Nebesee and Dornheim are still human controlled so you could probably get two decent armies out of this region alone. And there are a ton of DHL characters.

Heimdall and Kjord are your typical viking type settings.

I like the backstory of Dartha, which is right on the border of Monglash Steppes and is the southernmost realm of Malvernis. They are sort of an Evil, slaver version of Dwarves, with the Hell Forge. Their champion is a Fire Giant that hates dwarves. His belt is woven of Dwarven beards.

Okura is your typical Asian influenced country.

DHA was one of my favorites. Reaper made several changes to the DHA world's Taltos when they launched Warlord but left a lot of great material to incorporate into expansions. From what I gather through the community we should see, Koborlas, BSG, Blade Sister types, Razig, Dwarfs 2, and Wood Elves in the expansion book. I read somewhere that there would be ten new factions but can't remember where.

Another Orc faction based on Kargir would be interesting to me, especially in light of some of the new Black Orc models coming out. The faction could share a lot of the lower Orcs from the Reven and pull from the DHL line.

Greenshire in Vestonia was a halfling/gnome county that could be used to form a faction of little people but with BSG already out I don't see it.

Warbands from the human countries like Anhur, Telluria, Vestonia, Racheau, Breonne etc, would have enough in common to allow players to let a few characters and painting set them apart while drawing from the same model source like the DHA army packs. Something similar would work for the Ritterlich Confederation and Malvernian Empire. Skirmish level play makes more variety possible without having to create a ton of new models.

Also, since I can't play WL2 until after July 27 and have much time to speculate, how about a Skoli warband returning from near extinction and riding their high caliber giant scorpions, or Dire Dead. It will be amusing to see what they come up with and of course they are not limited by anything from DHA so imaginations can run wild.

Saw somewhere here from Reaper (I think) that Razig will be PDF in the future, and NOT in Savage North. So, while that leaves my only faction data cardless for awhile (:angry: ), it does open up another slot for something different.

I really hope that Reaper doesn't make a book of all Asian factions. That just sounds so bland to me. Using different shades of the same faction in one book is a bad choice, hopefully they will continue to mix and match in each book. Like how Taltos has Asian spiced Reptus, a little ancient Egypt Nefsokar and then medieval Europe Crusaders. Not saying that a "book of the east" would be bad, just that I would hope it has many attractive flavors and doesn't fall into the Legend of the 5 Rings sort of blandness. And maybe 4 isn't too bad, if they were different enough, like one faction of noble samurai and all human, one of humans and goblins that focused on shadow magic and ninjitsu, and one of mostly oriental ogres and Oni.

I hope to see a more rag-tag human faction. A faction that lives harshly, but still tries to stand for the good. From what Qwyk said Haldor sounds like a great place for such a faction.

Dartha sounds like an awesome place to unleash some cool models. Fire Giants and then work in some of those magma creatures that Stubbdog mentioned and it would be a good start for a unique faction.

An Ethereal army would be a ton of fun. I've seen some nasty things done with the Spectral Cavalry and other ghosts from necropolis, but I would love to fight against or play with an army made of almost all non-corporeal models. It would really change how you approached the battle.

Missed that but found it in the Spreading WL2 topic. After buying two new books Razig players will still have to go online and download a PDF to play their faction. I call shananigans on that.

Why would they buy the Savage North expansion book if they didn't play any of the Savage North factions?

You tell us ::P: Won't Savage North have things that EVERY WL2 player MUST have? You know, like people claim for all the D&D books beyond the core set.

Seriously, I have no problem with a few factions being and online PDF only. Hell, I've been wanting a Sisters of the Blade faction for a long time, and I don't care if it's in the Savage North book, or as an online PDF only. I'll be happy when I get it, either way.

Because they play more than one faction including one in the SN and Razig and because if you are serious about the game you will need SN to understand what you have to compete against. Making an army list that best counters another faction is fun but it requires an understanding of the opposing faction that is best derived from the books.

claymoore - I don't know that I get your objections here. It sounds more like you're objecting that Razig won't be in a book at all, than the fact it won't be in Savage North. Would you be happier if Gus told us Razig was going to be in book 3 or 4?

And I don't agree with the "I must buy every book" argument when a game is perfectly playable without the expansion books. As long as WL2 is playable without SN, that argument is weak, and sounds like an excuse to whine IMO.
