Archaon
*prepares to be beaten with a stick* so i was wondering if you guys had any idea for an average painter, ive got plenty of shades of blue/red/green/grey plus those inks (black ink not grey ink obviously :p) and enough to get me by in brown i seem to get a block when it comes to creative stuff...like english essays *looks at his homework*
Orchid_Noir
I don't know if you have Hobby Lobby near you, but if so go look (ask, if needs be) for the Createx airbrush acrylics, they hace the most beautiful blue metallic, deep enough to easily be in contrast to silver, true enough to not be mistaken for any other color. At most of the H.L.s I've been to they have these over in the counter close to the framing stuff, ya know, over in the Fine Art supplies (read, over $1 paints, the x-acto's, etc. but would look funny with the aresols type stuff  ). I you have seen my other posts on these, you know I love 'em. Being ready to use from the bottle airbrush colors, the colsistancy is just dreamy for minis, and I have even started picking up the non-pearlized/metallic colors. Kheprera
Have you thought about trying the NMM technique for the armor or skin? It would give a good contrast to whatever you want to do in the metallics.
Archaon
no, NMM is on my 'to try' list, ill probably give is a go on one of my old models that is similar (i have plenty of them :p) but im not confident about NMM on something as major as the figures armour is similar to this but with less extra stuff on the armour http://www.games-workshop.com/40kuniv....1-b.jpg i will try however :)
Orchid_Noir
my closest hobby lobby is in america, put it that way :p Sorry forgot you were over there You could check the availability through more local sources though, might be around there somewhere. I'll do a search and see what I can come up with 4 ya. :)
Enchantra
Well, something to think about is that, you could mix many different shades of the silver using black and gunmetal colored paint. Also keep some pearl colored paint around to, all of them metallics. That will give you successive shades of silver to work with and might offer some contrast and the pearl works for highlights. Now adding some blue to the silver can help a bit with the contrast if you want more of a color contrast.
Hells_Clown
You might try mixing some silver paint with blue to create a gun metal blue color and use that on the weapon. Then highlight with silver. Might look nice. Might not. :p
Errex
Paint the barrels black or grey. Then paint the bolter's case either with enchanted blue or ultramarine blue. The eagle can go on white. Or, if you prefer a more codex-like look, paint the casings red, with a yellow/white eagle.
