firstjump
Does anyone remember The Real Ghostbusters? It used to be my favorite cartoon, and then it completely slipped off of my radar. A few weeks ago I found out that it's been released for the first time on DVD! Season 1 just came out and I picked it up the other day. It's awesome! The episodes all have introductions by random cast/crew who give a bit of behind the scenes info about the show. There are also some commentaries, a "making of"documentary, and a lot of other cool stuff. Can't wait till volume 2!
SaintRigger
I used to like it :)
haldir
that use to be one of my favorite cartoons. I seen it at Walmart the other day, I'll have to pick it up sometime. In the meantime, my son got Transformers G1 Season 1 the other day. Wow, does that one bring back some memories!! They even put the markers in that go to & come back from commercial breaks. King Tiger
I remember it very well and enjoyed it as well. Favorite episode was the shooting at the OK Coral...GHOST "That's a lot of aces partner...You know what this means?" DR. VENKMEN "We're playing with a Kinasta deck?" Wonder which season that episode was?
Enchantra
Thank you so much for making me feel old. I remember watching Ghostbusters - the movie - at a Drive in Theater as a child in Wisconsin, it was a double feature night and it played with the movie Ice Pirates. I'm not sure which was more funny to my 5 or 6 year old mind at the time; the line, "What did you do now Ray?" Or the discovery of the Space Slurpy on the space ship with Ice Pirates. Star Drifter
I saw the original Ghostbusters at a Drive-In, too. Yes, season 1 is available on DVD right now. Also, Time-Life is currently selling the entire series in one very expensive boxed-set. I think you need to go through their site directly to get that one, however. Kang
I totally remember the Real Ghostbusters. I loved it, still have very good memories of it. One of the better animated series of its day IMO - for instance, compare it to the other animated Ghostbusters series, which I think of as the Fake Ghostbusters. It had a car made of bones and a talking ape. Absolutely unwatchable crap. But the Real Ghostbusters was so awesome, I'm definitely picking up those DVD's when I get a chance. Anyone else remember the Lovecraft episode? IIRC the title was "The Collect Call of Cthulhu". What more could anyone want? Sadly, I also remember when the series jumped the shark to become the supposedly more kid-friendly "Slimer! and the Real Ghostbusters," which wasn't even close to as good even though I was a kid at the time and I think (but don't quote me on this) that they might have extended it to a one-hour format. Somebody goofed... Still maybe a little better than the Fake Ghostbusters cartoon though. If those episodes are also available, I'll probably pass on them and just stick to the earlier seasons. fodder
If you get a chance to see it or pick it up Ghostbusters: Extreme was pretty good too. It picks up where the Real Ghost Busters leaves off. Egon goes back to being a professor of paranormal studies and recruits a new team. It was really good and did an excellent job of keeping the theme of the Real Ghostbusters, plus there was a sort of reunion episode where Venkmen, Winston and Stantz team up with Egon and his new crew to bust up some baddies. Also, while I agree that the "other" Ghostbusters show wasn't as good, it wasn't complete crap. It was based off of a live action TV show that was produced before the movie.
