Lady Tam
Gosh...been awhile. I think, if I recall, I found these real cool miniatures that *le gasp!* had females that were dressed sensibly for once. Well tired of the "red Sonya bikini look as well as the jokes by my gaming group, I bought some eagerly. From there I found the site, and was one of the first people on the board ;p My number was dropped when the board went under one of the many changes but if I recall I was up there with Frosch and lstormhammer and a few others. Those were the days :P we cluttered the forum like crazy ;p And it is pretty much that simple. I am am a bit scattered but still return from time to time to the forums to say hi! *Hi!* and have be seen like Elvis. Tammi
Pyromaniac605
I came across Reaper because I watched a lot of Miniwargaming's videos and they pretty much only use Reaper paints, so that's basically it. :P
Kuro Cleanbrush
I started painting mini's in earnest about 10 years ago after stumbling accross some GW Space Marines and thinking "Wow, those look awesome!" Up until last summer, I still had delusions of maybe putting together an army to play 40k or Fantasy, but I gradually figured out that I only cared about painting the "important" figures in an army (and I wouldn't play with an unpainted army!). This made me transition to a mini painter, and I have not regretted the change. Now, I can paint not just one general and a mob of minions, but rather every model I make can be loaded with character. But, though I knew of Reaper (because I have seen their figures in my local gaming store for years), I was a loyal GW fan and only bought their stuff. Then came a D&D campaign with my college buddies. I badly wanted to play with something more than little chips, so I told everyone to buy mini's that I would help them build and paint. Once again, I bought GW, but my friends had to branch out to find mini's that fit their characters, and Reaper proved to have a remarkably expansive collection of awesome mini's at a FRACTION of GW's rediculous (and always escalating) prices. For the next campaign, I promptly bought my first Reaper mini! Since then, I found the Reaper website, began to grasp the full awesomeness of their mini collection, and finally got fed up with GW. With Reaper, I know I can find exactly what I need to represent any given character concept, and everything I see from their product and their company continues to impress me! I am now a loyal Reaper fan!
Sefria
Reaper is an amazing new find, for me -as in YESTERDAY. At PAX. Where, because of the aforesaid awesome nature of Reaper, I got to paint my very first miniature -the white rabbit! So unutterably happy right now. And, of course, today (although technically this may be tomorrow; it's been a long day and the time has kind of drifted. Is it still Sunday? Um. Anyway) I had to come and check out their website and their forum and go buy more minis from them. Um. You? Pronouns get tricky when sleep is this distant a memory. But, yes. PAX! That is how Reaper found me. or vice versus, whichever.

Stern Kestrelmann
Cool topic... So, I used to paint minis back in the "old days" early 80's. I picked it back up by chance after my first child was born in 1997. So, I quit smoking cigarettes that year and was looking for sometning to "fill the void" left by nicotine. Thus, I picked up a handful of fantasy models at my FLGS on an impulse, one of which was a Reaper DHA blister pack, "Templar Knight" for $1.97. From there I requested a Reaper catelog and would frequently visit there old-school static website, where they just listed their current mini inventory and scheduled new releases. In the summer of 2000, I even wrote Reaper a letter, asking them if they would name one of their new relaese after my daugther (Fiona) who has been born in April of 2000. Fiona Redfinch was released some time in 2002. Always wondered if that was just a coincidence. Then one day in early August of 2002, I went to check the Reaper Website and was suprised to find that a new forum and interactive website had been created! There was just a handful of us for that first 6 to 12 months, man it was fun. I got a lot of great advice and ideas on improving my painting techniques and really enjoyed it. We started some of the first PBP games, Darakan Chronicles and Lady Tam's world, Mordant. Reaper was great, they responded to our feedback and really seemed to shape the early version of the website on our suggestions! Once Werner Klocke started producing models for Reaper I was hooked for life... That's it from ol' Stern (member number 19)
noisymouse
Still cool to post a story? I found Reaper at the same time I got into RPGs. I was going to be playing my *very first game ever* with my fiance's game group, and went on the big shopping trip for books, dice and a character figurine. In my local game store Reaper had the best stock in terms of the quality of the sculpts and the choices available, so it was pretty much a no-brainer. Painting that fig was so much fun, I started going back and shopping for others that had nothing to do with our game at all, but just looked fun to paint. Many dollars later, here I am.... (That was in 2001. The fig was Merith of the Flame, and the paint job was amusingly terrible, as I had no idea what the heck I was doing. It's since been stripped and repainted... wish I had kept a pic or two...)
The Basilisk
I was living in a standard gritty city in Michigan durring the early 2000's as a young teen, just starting to come out of an awkward phase or two and coming into many more, when I made the acquaintance of two friends with my general interests - dragons and swords and monsters and make believe. One of them, who's pop was a cop, had (I think) just started getting into the RPG scene, mostly with superhero and starwars games. He had recently purchased some D&D minis from a local game shop (I remember the figures well, they were the bald gnome barbarian and a crouching thief amongst others.) and we all thought they were awesome, so we took a trip to said comic store. We each bought a figure, a dark elf (torie domain, or something) for the friend with the awesome dad, a brooding paladin for the other guy, and a savage OOP lizard man with a spear for me. In a sad attempt to make it look like a gila monster I painted it garish gold with gray spots. It's seen a few coats of paint and I've been hooked since then. For the LONGEST while I thought that Reaper was one of the only Mini makers in the world. Still think they're one of the best, but then that's everyone's oppinion on them! Gailbraithe
I don't know when I bought my first Reaper miniature. It was long time ago, I know that. I had bought several dozen of them before I realized that Dark Heavens wasn't a Ral Partha line. In fact it may have taken me a few years to realize that Reaper and Ral Partha were not the same company. A lot of the early Reaper stuff was done by Sandra Garrity and Julie Guthrie, and I associate both of them with Ral Partha, so I think that is why I was confused for so long. Also they were stocked right next to each other at the store I bought all of my minis at for years (American Eagles in Seattle). I don't think I really realized that Reaper was a company and not a Ral Partha line until I started shopping at Gary's Games (also in Seattle), which only carries Reaper. And when I say Ral Partha, its entirely possible I mean Grenadier. I could never keep those two seperate in my head either. Oh, and I started painting miniatures when I was 11, which was...1987. My first minis purchase ever was definitely a Ral Partha ElfQuest box set (the one with Madcoil, and a set of minis I would KILL to own now). I quit painting around 1993, then got back into around 2003. I think Reaper was on the scene by then, but as I said, I didn't realize they weren't Ral Partha/Grenadier until maybe 2007. Right around the time I realized what Reaper Points were (still have my Sophie shirt and my Warlord shirt).
Akiosama
I found them at my local hobby store and began picking them up because at the time there weren't really any cost-effective general fantasy figures out there. I was trying hard to avoid GW - I thought the commitment was too much, and when I did get into WH/40K I was right. I was collecting AEG's Clan War at the time, and the figures for that game were somewhat pricey - not expensive, but not cheap. Reaper's stuff seemed like a really good product, as the figures were very well done - I think I was grabbing up every Sandra Garrity figure I could at the time - covered a wide range of types, and always managed to catch my eye with something new every time I went to the store. I think it was that, and Talin's Sophie that did it. (Heh.) I remember grabbing the first Christmas Sophie with a huge grin. (Unfortunately for me, it's still in its blister, I believe. I can be so diffident when it comes to my skill at painting.) I have a bunch of old Reaper minis which I swear I'm going to use for painting practice, but despite the fact that I probably bought them for $3-4 each, I still feel they're so well crafted artistically that I haven't gotten myself to sacrifice any to the learning experience. Ah well. Lots of good memories with Reaper figures. They're still some of the most economical and unique figures on the market and I still get them every chance I get. Now, if only I could find a local shop that stocked their paints. Thank goodness for the internet. My 2 yen, Akiosama
Ironhammer
8 Years ago this year. I had been paiting historical minis of one sort or other since I was about twelve (mostly 1/72 figures that my little brother and I played with). I was in California for a funeral, and there was a hobby store near where I was staying. My brother and I had recently discovered GW's Lord of the Rings line, and we cruised over to take a look. I was browsing the stores stock when I came across some really quite nice, generic sort of figures, with fabulous detail and at an incredible price! So I picked one up (02334: Amroth Starlight, in fact), and when I brought it home I noticed that the address listed was Lewisville, TX, not 20 mins from my house! I figured I would need to look into this further, and when I was back in TX I looked up the company and found they were in fact located in Denton not five minutes away! Eight years later I am thoroughly entrenched in the hobby and loving every minute of it!
Adrift
Saw them as a kid at the local hobby store, had no idea that minis were used to play DnD. Eventually started using them and started painting. The rest is history.

beno
Me too, me too. Not very exciting but I was looking for something interesting to paint and came across the site about two years ago. Couldn't find anyone selling UK side after a google search (never the best reflection of what there is!) and turned sadly back to my painting table with whatever cheapo deals I could find! Now I actually know what the internet does, after years living in the dark ages. So I had a scan around a few weeks ago and found Miniature Heroes and some guys on ebay and put some orders in - Sirithis turned up a few days later with Tobias Winterthorn and now they're in the Show Off forum, with two more to appear tomorrow and next week. Got a major, major project on the way too - using entirely Reaper minis - thinking big this time, HUGE in fact. All in all i'm hooked on Reaper Now to go and work out how much it would cost, and how long it would take for me to paint up everything in the catalog that I like... hmm, I don't have enough fingers for this
Silas Coggeshall
lol mine's kinda lame. :P Me and my uncle were scrambling to get our D&D 4e group up and running. We had the basics, but we had been using these really lame & cheep minis my uncle had borrowed from a friend. When his friend asked for them back and with out next session a few days(note I was the DM) away we were kinda freakin out. :P He ended up buying a lot of older minis on ebay to get us started. I got some actual D&D pre painted minis. When he showd me his new/old minis he mentioned that he wanted to get some minis off of a site called reapermini, but didn't at the time have the cash for the amount of minis we needed at that time. I then went to his house a few weeks later cause he wanted to show me some mini painting stuff. He had told some stuff he had read up on online about painting and I wanted to try my hand at it. Afterwards I went to my hobby shop and they had some reapers. And thus began my quest for Reaper. LOL
