Beowulfthehunter
I wanted to paint this gal as an exercise at painting flesh and armor or boobs. I am quite happy how she turned out except for the hair. Feel free to be as mean as you want. I am looking for ways to improve the armor. I used a mizture of Boltgun Metal and Black highlighted up to pearl white.
oracleartist
Sorry, but I will have to be mean on this one: "What is Wrong with YOU? Her hair looks awesome and quite realistic!" Other than that, she is very nicely done.
Jabberwocky
Oooh, I like her! I like the deep, rich purple of the loincloth. The hair looks good--I like the colors you have gone with. Perhaps just a bit higher on the highlights around the crown of the head. Nice skintone on the breasts; the face could use a bit more smoothing , especially on the left cheek. I think you did a great job on the eyes. The metallics are good, I think adding a bit of another color would help break it up a bit more. For example, on the axe hand making that strap over the wrist leather would help break up that bunch of metal. You could do the same with the "waist coat" armor or perhaps the belt buckle--perhaps gold or bronze.
Sanael
I'm with Jabber on the purple--that loincloth is really snazzy! I like the hair a lot, too, and I'll echo the comments about the hair and the face. The armor, to me, looks a little flat. I honestly didn't realize you had done anything other than one metallic + darklining until I read the body of your post. Part of that, of course, is just in the nature of photographing metallic paint; that's why NMM is so popular online (but please don't take that as an endorsement of NMM...I'm not a huge fan). What I'd suggest is undercoating your metallics with a nonmetallic paint, then putting down a much thinner shadow-midtone-highlight of your metallics; just enough to add the gradation and sparkle. This gives you the shine of metallics, but not the thickness and flattening gloss. The other thing, which I do more frequently myself, is to mix your regular paint directly with your metallics, and blend as you would skin. Keep in mind that the "shadow" of a reflective surface is likely to have a lot of contrast with the "highlight" of the same surface, too. I'll second Jabberwocky's notion of contrasting metals, too, and include the various rivets as something to consider setting off in that fashion. I will say, I like both axe-heads. The big one does have more depth than most of her armor, from what I'm seeing, and the little one has some nice little rusty things going on. captenglish
That is simply outstanding I don't can't see what you don't like about the hair, that is exactly the look I am going for on a figure I'm working on; could/would you post the colors you used? Lyn
Sorry, but I will have to be mean on this one: "What is Wrong with YOU? Her hair looks awesome and quite realistic!" Other than that, she is very nicely done. I completely agree! lol
bikerdrew
It's good, but the metal could do with a bit more contrast. I really like the purple.
JimL
I think this mini begs for metal done as described in the following link and being done in TailSpinner's current WIP. http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=36723 http://www.mainlymedieval.com/ozpainters/viewtopic.php?t=
Bumble_B
Nice job. I do have to say the boobies are the attention getters there. They are so much brighter than her face, they really draw your eye in (Just like in real life ). I really like the hair and I am not sure what you find wrong with it. The placement and the colors seems dead on.
Balgin Stondraeg
When I painted this model I wasn't very content with the hair either but everyone said it looked lovely. I think it's in the nature of the sculpt that it's horrible to paint the hair to satisfaction but that onlookers like it. I did the loincloth blue but nearly did it purple. I want to paint a second one sometiem with a hammer instead of an axe anyway so I might just pinch your purple when the time comes :p. drjsallison
I like this piece and you did a good job on her. The camera is so aweful when it comes to metalics. I have seen some demi-metalic work that comes off well with the camera. I am sure there is a tutorial or WIP giving details. IMHO I don't really think she needs anything more unless you are going for show/contest quality.
