Rescue at Rivenroar

Recommended Posts

Rolf approaches the party & says

"As much fun the last hour has been I must return to the wilds, if this war party has left the city, then it may stumble upon the remains of my tribe & I will want to fight them by their side. Good luck everyone!"

& with that the shifter sprints off to the North. (again thanks to TheTravis! for playing)

After the paladin speech, the townsfolk raises arms & cheer, there appears to be a renewed vigor in the crowd & after the fires are extinguished in the area. As the crowd gather up everything to move on, a platoon of soldiers arrive in the area, the commander approaches the party & says

"Warriors! We need assistance at the North bridges the beasts are there & are mounting anther charge into the city!" The guard doesn't wait for your response, he rejoins his troop & marches them to North to the bridges.

Akaru

As you approach the College of Ioun, the area is chaotic but in a orderly fashion. People are attending the fires that were set by the horde & are attending any fallen people. As you walk into the square a large group of guardsman run past, the leader shouting out

"People of Brindol, we must hurry to the Northern bridges! The horde is massing for anther assault!" He continues to shout this as the men march down the street.

With little hesitation, Akaru follows the group of guardsmen toward the east bridge. As much as she believes a short rest could do her some good, she knows every minute matters.

Kaanite looks at Brannor and laughs. "They sure do have a funny way of training you paladins these days, fightin with no armor on... but boy does it work! I may have to stop in and observe some of your training regimen one day."

As the guard approaches and starts shouting Kaanite focuses his attention on the guard

"I guess our work is not yet over, is it? And all I wanted was a cool mug, and a hot meal when I came into town."

Grins Like Hyena stands over the fallen Valken until a light breeze whispers over his face. "Go with the winds, friend" he says as he turns.

Listening to Brannor's words instills a sense of duty in him as he strokes the mane of his spirit companion. After the commanders request for help, he approaches the Paladin and speaks.

"It is a chaotic time in this city and fighting along side of you all since the attack on the tavern has given me something to fight for. I will follow you to your temple and beyond. I suggest we make haste so that we may assist the town guards as soon as possible."

To the half orc the knight turns, missing the jest in his voice. "We have been trained to defend the people of Brindol no matter the cost to myself. If I must fight bare skinned with naught but tooth and nail I shall. A knight does not need a skin of steel to repel these uncivilized hordes. I just thank Erathis for the gift of sword and shield my mentor bestowned upon me this evening, so I could more readily dispatch The Hand. I too was just hoping for a pleasant evening of relaxation and celebration having just been given my spurs. I was ill prepared for an invading horde."

"Let's get those folks that can't fight to the temple and some safety. Anyone willing to fight, grab a weapon be it blade or axe, or even a simple club or rock. We escort the wounded, the children and those unable to fight to the temple, then we double time it to the gate to repel these vermin. For Brindol!"

"Follow me!"

"I'll take the lead. Turning to his new companions. Kaanite, can you run flank and try to keep everyone together? You, with the ghost beast, can you watch our back?"

Brannor starts off at a brisk trot towards the temple of Erathis.

Kaanite grunts in the affirmative at Brannor's order, laughing inwardly at him, those paladins, tough as platinum, about as dense as it too it seems.

Kaanite matches pace with the group keeping to the side and making sure nobody strays down an alley and that nothing strays from the alley into the group. Occasionally he encourages the few that begin to slow down and fall behind, making sure they stick with the group.

Grins Like Hyena responds with a simple "Of course" and lets the group move ahead without him before falling in.

Using his spear as a walking stick, he bids his companion farewell as it fades with the wind and then keeps pace behind the group; keeping his eyes open for any of the red hand.

The party makes it way to the temple, There is a walled off block before reaching the building, but it's magnificent to behold.

salt_lake_temple.jpg

The top of the building shining in the darkness. The priests of Erathis light the towers of the temple with magical light, every night, as Erathis is the god of civilization & his temples are one of the main areas of major cities. The townsfolk with the party have broken off, as most have either returned home or went elsewhere. There are a few people thou that go the entire journey with the party & as the temple comes into view they break away as soon as the party makes it way into the temple.

Surprisingly, the temple & the immediate area are "raid-free" so to speak. Either the horde didn't hit this area or the patrons were able to douse the fires quickly. The party waits in the waiting area of the temple, as Brannor makes his way to his room, where he dons his armor quickly.

Upon returning the party then quickly makes it way to the twin northern bridges, where upon reaching the edge of the main market area, there is a giant crowd of guardsmen & other people waiting to fight the horde. Out of the crowd, there are various races but a couple catch your eye, a female half-orc & a tall man in platemail armor. At least it appears to be plate, but upon further inspection, you see it's his skin, a warforged.

Warforged in the Brindol Market Square

Akaru

The journey back to the square isn't long & you make your way into the crowd of gathered soldiers, or mostly militia-men & women. As you make your way deeper into the square you can hear, commanding officers saying "Steady, boys! We can't drive them out of Brindol!!"

As you make your way closer to the eastern bridge, the sight of the horde is intimidating. Your not sure of their numbers but the amount of torches & other burning fires is enough to drive a bit of fear into you. You decide it be best to do your fighting toward the rear, as your not one of those brute types, you fight with your magical art!!

As you make your way back, a rag tag group of humans makes there way into the square to the west, they are unlike the other common folk gathered here, they look like they could stand up to this horde by themselves if they had too. Also a shiny glint of metal catches your eye as well. A tall warforged walks the crowd as well, he looks like he could be useful in a fight as well.

Curious of the metal being's nature, Akaru follows after it. However she senses that it intends to be at the center of the fight, a place where she knows that she herself does not yet belong. Still she cannot help but to follow.

Brannor walks through the crowd, his armor and shield gleaming brightly in the dim torchlight. His holy symbol seems to shine from its own inner light as the young knight prepares for the defense of his city. As he passes through the citizens he offers them words of hope and courage, pats on the shoulder, etc as he passes along the blessings of Erathis. He notices the metal warrior and the halforc as ones who likely have skills beyond the local populace, and makes note to try and keep them in sight should their assistance be needed. When he reaches the collection of guardsmen he stops.

"Who is in command here?"

Akaru

Your curiosity doesn't go unnoticed & the warforged turns toward you (your not sure if it's male or female, WF are asexual in appearance, or most of them are). "Greetings, half-orc. It appears we are in for a major fight here if the remaining horde members rush the city, I'm not sure the citizens can withstand that kind of assault." The voice is male. A couple of the citizens here the warforged & you can see that fear grips them.

"Where are my manners, name is Watcher, formerly a member of the Watchmen war group, he puts his right fist to his chest."

Brannor with Kaanite in tow,

You move through the crowd, while your words are strong & enlightening, you can sense that there is much fear in the gathered city guard & milita-men. As you call out a man dressed in scalemail speaks up, "I am, or at least this unit."

"If you want to speak Lord Warden Harrik Orenna, he is over there near the bridges. You will find him on the white horse."

Akaru is taken by surprise when the Warforged speaks directly to her. She had managed so far to avoid casual conversation, being that she was just not very good at it. So much of her informal education prior to her journey to the city had revolved around magic, so she felt little qualified to speak about much else.

Finally she claers her throat and answers. "I am Akaru. I came to this city to study magic. Now I have a chance to study war. You seem a good..." Akaru fumbles for the right word "....mentor?"

As they move in the direction of the unit commander, Brannor answer's the halforc's question. "That tin man is a warforged." You can almost hear the contempt in his voice for the use of such a term. "Thou he looks like a construct he is a person just as you and I. I imagine he is here just like the rest of us. He wishes to defend his home from invaders."

Brannor bows his head as he reaches the unit commander. "May the Light of Erathis shine on you and your men sir."

"My companion and I are at your disposal, unless the Commander would prefer us elsewhere. We're both trained and experienced in combat. We've already dispatched two bands of the Hand that managed to make it inside the city just arriving here, although sadly not all travelling with us remain to defend Brindol."

At this, a flicker of pain flashes across the young halfelf's face, but is quickly masked so the soldiers around him do not lose heart.

"I am Brannor. My companion is Kaanite."

Kaanite looks around the crowd studying the rag tag assembly of people defending their home. Upon hearing his name mentioned he snaps his head around and grunts at the commander before peering around at his surroundings.
