yani
I'm still waiting for the flame sphere to be released. Been wanting it ever since I saw it. :( It was cast this morning, is being packaged now, and will be shipped tomorrow to distribution! It's official release date is 8/3. The long wait is nearly over! 'Bout time! :D
Sanael
Nice work on the gnome, Derek. She is simple but I think if it was "busy" it's ruin the look of the mini. It's actually one of the things I love about your sculpts, Derek: they are elegantly simple, with lots of great open surfaces to paint--wonderful for practicing freehand or just the basics of making smooth transitions over an open space--with just enough "fiddly" places (like this gnome's hair and the details on her pack) to do smaller work, too. It's obvious you're a killer painter just seeing the way you sculpt. Not to say I don't like the maddening madness of sculpts like Klocke's various shrines to the buckle, because I do enjoy such things, but I appreciate them in a very different way. Usually a more volatile appreciation, I think.

That's just what I'm striving for: a balance between having some details sculpted and leaving other areas open to the painter's interpretation. I sculpt what I would like to paint. Derek In 4e D&D, [the gnome] could also represent a more martial type of character or a (Charisma-based) paladin. After seeing her, I immediately created a gnome warlord. :) Perfect! Chainmail, martial weapon, good Int &/or Cha, and a leadery pose. Derek

Derek Every time you come up with a new sculpt, I come up with a new D&D character. EVERY TIME. If you wanted to crank out some tieflings, dragonborn, and warforged, I'd be your best friend. :)
MikeD
Every time you come up with a new sculpt, I come up with a new D&D character. EVERY TIME. Heh! I have a similar problem. Every time I see a cool figure that I really like (like most of Derek's stuff!) ideas for a PC based on the name, race, and equipment the figure is carrying start percolating through my fevered brain! I've got a file with character write-ups for just about every miniature I own. I have enough that I could populate a fair sized town with them! dks
If you wanted to crank out some tieflings, dragonborn, and warforged, I'd be your best friend. :) I already have three "hellborn" figures (tiefling-like) in the DHL line, and I have ideas for a few more. You should soon see a few new "half-dragon" or "dragonman" (dragonborn-like) figures by other sculptors, since they created some around ReaperCon. I wasn't planning to make any warforged figures myself, but maybe I'll get inspired to make one. In a 3rd-ed Eberron campaign, I briefly played a naive and childlike warforged monk -- "The Last", since he was the last warforged ever created at his factory -- but he died to a crit in the second session. Our party lacked a cleric anyway, so I made a dragonmarked halfling cleric to replace the warforged monk. I am a 4e D&D gamer, and I'm doing what I can to ensure that Reaper has a figure for newly playable race/class combinations. Since I have a day job and other hobbies, though, I can sculpt only a few figures each year. Derek
Artists Wren Posted July 25, 2009 Artists Share Posted July 25, 2009 I'd love if you did more hellborn Derek! We recently started up a 4e campaign after a long, long hiatus from RPing. I'm using Tiviel for my character, but something a little more bardly or ranged weapony would be most welcome. ;->
ZILLA
I absolutely love the Frost Giant! A must have! Still waiting for the Reptus Broodmaster.
joshuaslater
I'm ready to pounce on a few of this batch if they appear in the store today.

I'm just saying - I have a warforged warlock I can't play, because I refuse to use a generic plastic mini. :(

Derek, keep up the good work. Always like to see your stuff. Can't say I'm that interested in the catgirl. Just doesn't have the cute factor I look for. Todd, your Chieftain is outstanding. I look forward to painting that one.
