Erion
Has anyone played Uncharted Seas? A bunch of the guys around here have been talking about giving it a try, but we have been burned many times in the past by flashes in the pan. Opinions, good, bad, or indifferent, are welcomed. Mad Pat
It looks cool to me, I've read through the quick play rules and their turn examples and it looks like allot of fun. Just don't know if anyone in my area is playing.
Nanite
I caved and bought the Iron Dwarf starter. They looked really sci-fi to me. I'm very impressed with the sculpts. Super-detailed resin casts, and for the price, fantastic value.
Erion
I wasn't very Impressed with the initial selection of fleets, to be honest. but the Thaniras Elves and Shroud Mages are very very nice. And it's a well-known fact that I am very weak when it comes to nice looking elf-models (thus my wallet will be in searing pain when the Retribution of Scyrah is released for Warmachine this fall). I talked to the FLGS owner at Lunch and he is going to be looking into a trade account with Spartan Games. At least four of the most reliable local nerds are talking about giving the game a try. dewen
I love it. Great game. Easy to learn and fairly simple rules. Company (Spartan Games) has shown a commitment to customer service and listening to feedback from players.
Beowulfthehunter
Uncharted Seas was a simple set of rules, with decent minis when I picked it up initialy, I say WAS! In the past few months they have had constant rulebooks. Newer models have no support in the rulebook, and new rules are constantly being added. The minis where of poor quality due to the resin used, and they have since moved over to a poorer material accourding to one of the guys with a casting background in our LGS. I would like to like this game, but I just cannot and my painted dwarf fleet is sitting in my gaming box with no one to play against. Erion
Like I said before, we're not exactly jumping in with both feet on this one. One of the guys has a rulebook ordered from one of the online sites and we are going to try a couple of games with the cutout ship counters available on Spartan's website before we invest in any miniatures. dewen
Uncharted Seas was a simple set of rules, with decent minis when I picked it up initialy, I say WAS! In the past few months they have had constant rulebooks. Newer models have no support in the rulebook, and new rules are constantly being added. I would like to like this game, but I just cannot and my painted dwarf fleet is sitting in my gaming box with no one to play against. There are a few models without support. All of new rules are available for download on their site. Even though I love the game, the rules are a bit frustrating right now. Part of the companies problem is that the game took off way beyond their expectations. They are having trouble with the popularity. In fact they are holding back on releasing their Firestorm so they do no impact Uncharted Seas. There is a plan to produce a comprehensive rulebook. I have not seen any issues with poor quality models. I have a Dragon Lords fleet (starter plus new vessels) and a couple other gamers in my area each have a couple fleets. There was an issue with damaged vessels due to packaging. The resin was getting chipped because of the way it was placed in the clamshells. I think this was mostly with the metal sails banging against the resin in transit. I had a ship with chipped railing. I sent an email and a replacement hull was mailed to me. It does take a little while to get the replacement because it is coming from Europe. I am not aware of a change in material. That seems to contradict their public acknowledgment of the issues with damaged models. They were aware of a problem, acknowledged it, and starting making changes to address it.
