So I got a speeding ticket last night....

Recommended Posts

Just pay the $75. If you wanna dance you gotta pay the piper.

(says the guy who paid $140 for 13 mph over a few months ago)

Yea really ONLY $75 for being 15 mph over! In Pennsylvania your pushing $200 for that kind of violation and that gets doubled in construction area and areas "PennDoT" has labled as "safe driving zones" Pay the 75 for sure!

I'm going to have agree with Qwyk's suggestions, pay the ticket and slow down.

It's not worth wasting everyone's time to go to court when you know you were wrong. The $75 ticket is going to cost even more if you do because of court costs and a lawyer if you decide to bring one. There are tickets you can fight and those you can't.

Oddly, I've only had one speeding ticket ever. I've been hit by people speeding through my neighborhood though and would appreciate it if more people drove the speed limit instead of however fast their car can manage. The accident I had backing out of my driveway with a speeder contributed to the demise of my much missed truck.

I'm rather interested to see what's going to happen when I end up moving to Maryland assuming I get this internship and subsequent position working for the NSA in a few years... Coming from texas, being used to long distances and fast highways, moving to somewhere where everything is within 5 miles of you...

Well, one of the first things you'll notice is that you'll suggest to your new friends to go visit a game shop 30-60 miles away, and they'll look at you like you just suggested driving to Florida.

At least that's the reaction I get from many of my customers in that area when I am searching online for repair shops or parts supply places for them - I'll suggest the closest place I can find, and they'll come back saying "That's 30 miles from here, I don't want to drive that far!"

Definitely pay the ticket.

On the bright side:

Some states allow people to take a defensive driving course in order to take the points off the license for speeding and to also offset the rise in insurance premium.

From what I understand, you might even be able to take the defensive driving course online for a reduced rate.

Wait, they passed a law saying they don't have to present evidence in court if requested? That sounds more than a bit unconstitutional to me. Whatever happened to "innocent until proven guilty"? Whatever happened to facing your accusers in court?

Oh, you can face them in court (which is what I did, or at least planned to do), they just won't let you have the officers deposition before the court date (so you don't get out of the ticket if he doesn't write one up or screws up something on it).

It was news to my lawyer at the time too, who had just been elected as a Judge in the next county over...
