They were small (5-10 minis per box) and plastic (no pewter). There were a few different kinds, like "Orcs & Goblins", "Chaos" (Some beastmen, some skaven, and a chaos champion), "Monsters", "Wizards", etc. They were fantasy, but not marketed specifically for WFB or anything. GW's first plastics were the 40K Space Marines (Beakies) and the Warhammer fantasy box that had dwarves, orcs, skaven and something else in a single box. You can look hereStuff of Legends but I don't really see anything that fits your description that was done in plastic. GW was definitely a pewter company through the '80s and '90s. I got the one that had gobllins, giant rats, giant spiders, and a minotaur, as well as the one with beastmen, skaven, and chaos warriors. They were indeed one-piece plastics, often re-boxes of the 1st gen plastics released for WHFB. I still have the box for the chaos set. These were not widely publicized or distributed. I don't think they ever showed up on the webstore, and I've only found them a few times in stores. Still, they were a great way to snag some cheap figures for games... Damon. Dilvish the Deliverer Posted September 1, 2009 Share Posted September 1, 2009 The Warhammer Armies box set (mid to late 80's when I bought IIRC) had Orcs, Goblins, Dark Elves (w/Crossbows), Elves, Dwarves and Skaven. There were 10 sprues in the box. Eack sprue had one body of each rack with 2 different heads and a few alternate weapons. Shields were on seperate sprues. I've got some of my unassembled sprues but the box is long gone. I still have my Skeleton army box that contained "a two-horse Skeleton Chariot with two Skeleton Crew, 8 Skeleton Horsemen and 20 Skeleton Infantry equipped with a variety of weapons." Balgin Stondraeg Posted September 6, 2009 Share Posted September 6, 2009 They're talking about the left over Warhammer Quest mini's that started to sell in small boxes of 5 in the early 90's. Not old and so bad they were easily forgotten. The beastmen & chaos warriors were from Talisman 3rd ed. The only gopod thing those boxes had going for them was that they'd copied the old early 1980's GW thing of putting the miniature's warhammer profile on the back of the box to save you looking it up.
