Wasn't the Halo-look a ripoff of Starship Troopers?

Starship Troopers was a book. There were no pictures, so it technically be a rip-off of the "look," and powered armor has been a Sci Fi staple for decades. Besides, the MI power armor was supposed to look like "gorillas" IIRC.

Damon.

Yeah I meant the look ripped off from the movie. I imagine that the Starship Trooper power armor described in the book is the source of TDA/terminator armor in 40k.

I may be one of the few, but I actually wasn't disappointed with Star Wars Ep1 and 2 at first. At least not until Ep 3 came along, and I realized that the story told in Ep3 should have been the first three movies.

Of course, I knew all along that Eps 1-3 were going to be the equivilent of a GM (Lucas) filling the Players (us) in on all the backstory he created to create the campaign (SW ep5-6) they just finished, so I didn't expect much from them to begin with.

There is a little known 10 part cgi cartoon, "The Roughneck Chronicles" (pretty descent series) that predates HALO by 2 years. The suits are very similar.

The series is a hybrid of the movie and the novel. Suits/troopers are closer to the book, but still a bit too much cheese and not enough awesomeness of the troopers.

These are the same suits that Mongoose used for its tabletop game. I have a few. I think the resemblance is superficial.

It's still an awesome game.

resemblance is a little more than superficial, but not enough to be copyright. Besides you can only designed armor so many ways.

When I left the theater after seeing Epi 1 I couldn't stop thinking, "If Jar-Jar had gotten Darth Maul's screen time and background telling, and Darth Maul got Jar-Jar's that movie could have been 10 times better." I guess we should ALL have seen the writing on the wall after Epi 6. I mean the Ewoks were just awful... nothing more than marketing to girls and little kids bleh! How much more cool and believable would the fight for the shield generator on Endor have been if the native race had been some a$$ kickers like the wookies... ahhh what could have been...

The Halo look is simply an evolution of the character designs from Bungie's previous Marathon trilogy, which predates the Starship Troopers movie by several years. IIRC this is one of the load screens from Marathon: Durandal, which came out in '95.

Well I only get out to the movies about once every year if that. I've managed not to go as of yet this year. I used to go all the time but, I cut back as every time I went I felt like I had been robbed. I only usually go see a movie if it is something I really want to see, and I think that just makes it worse for me. If I would go see things I don't care about maybe I would like the movies better. I just feel that the last several years hollywood has pushed out a lot of turds and the populace has eaten them up due to flashy effects and popular actors.

I'll have to say that the biggest let down was that first Starwars prequal. I did not even see the other two until they came out on video. After about 10 min into the movie I just did not care any more. I can't for one moment believe any of the lies about how that story was written 30 years ago and he was only now able to bring it to the screen. It's like some old rock star comming out of retirement to do a concert tour and then making the crowd wish he had stayed in retirement. It ruined the memory of something I really had a fond spot in my heart for. If that was not enough, then he had to go back and screw up the originals.

I want to go back in time, fine myself and then smack my face, rip the Darth Vader iron-on off my little kid t-shirt and say, "Don't.. just don't. you'll be better off some day."

I could go on and rant about this but there would be little point to it. If I had not been a kid back years ago after the first movie I would have been able to see it comming from all those stupid projects and awful interviews that lucas did (That got swept away like the one where he talked about creating the force to show people that there can be something else other than god in the universe.) All there is left is for him to start his own religion and be the next L. Ron Hubbard. Oh I can see it now...

I wish I couldn't.

Re: Star Wars Prequels

I think it's sad that some people let perceived problems with eps. 1 - 3 interfere with/totally ruin their enjoyment of the Star Wars phenomenon as a whole. I watched and enjoyed all three movies.

Were there problems with them? Sure. They were not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. However, I just don't see them as the total disasters other posters in this thread do. Technically speaking, I thought the effects were fantastic. I'm always wowed by a good sci-fi battle sequence. ^_^

My suggestion: Watch them for the same reason one might watch an adult feature--for the action, not the plot.

Only good thoughts I have about the prequels.....

I know there's one or two. Hang on, i'm thinking.........

Hmmmmmm........

Oh yeah.

Clone troopers. Jango Fett. Padme dieing. Mace Windu. Guest spots of most of the expanded universe Jedi.

guess that's about it. 3 movies. Probably 15-20 minutes of screen time for all the best stuff.

oh well.
