MikeD
Are there any larger photos of the painted Frost Giant Princess that is posted on the front page of the site? I'd really love to get a better look at it, you can't tell too much from that thunbnail that is included in the New Releases 09-21-09 announcement. ixminis
I'm tweaking the last painted gallery photo-shoot I did and she's in it... I'll make an announcement in Reaper General when I've got it posted. (days away)

haldir
That is nice looking, Anne!! love the bold colors, even at that scale. RM

MikeD
It's posted :-) here: Thanks, ixminis! Now that I've had a chance to get a better look a the painted figure, I have to say that technically the paint job is fantastic. Anne Foerster did a great job, and I hope when I get mine painted (currently waiting for delivery!) that my paint job turns out near as good as her's. I thought the long, flowing blue hair turned out particularly well. That said, I do have to say that I don't think I agree with some of her color choices. In particular, all those warm, reddish colors I think detract from the "frosty" appearance I would expect from a Frost Giant, and esthetically clash too strongly with the cool blues and neutrals. Well, that's just personal preference, I suppose, so I'll just see what I can do with the figure once I get my hands on it.
Humansquish
I watched Derek for a little while he was sculpting it at Reapercon, and also saw the artwork and couldn't wait for it to come out. I must not have noticed the mask in the artwork, but it just kills the mini for me.
Dr.Bedlam
Yeah... I love everything about that mini except the face. It also is more reminiscent of the fire giantess than I would like.
haldir
If Anne is reading this: Did you do anything to the hair? Greenstuff the gap? Just curious got mine today (thanks mg.com!!) & I was doing a dry-fit on her & I noticed there is noticable gap between the body piece & cloak piece. I'm thinking a bit of sanding on the edges will bring them closer but I was curious on the hair. It looks like you didn't but I thought I'd ask. Awesome job on this + the others in the gallery as well. RM
alchemist
I think the thing about the face is that it appears to lack eyelids. To me, that's what gives the impression of a mask. Otherwise a great sculpt.

You must have missed the topic where the sculptor said that it wasn't intended as a mask, but can see how people see it that way now. I think the face is unsettling, but I absolutely love it! The strangely shaped eyes give it an unnatural and more monstrous look. I plan on painting her up as if it's her face, not a mask. Now Hurry and sculpt more Giants!! I need some Storm Giants and how about some Astryal Giants too.
Reaper User Vaitalla Posted September 24, 2009 Reaper User Share Posted September 24, 2009 Yep, the sculptor did not intend for it to be a mask but I was an art history student so when I looked at it I saw "Inuit Mask" and painted it accordingly! Re: the colors, sometimes as an artist you've just got to go with the color scheme your guts want you to use. I was so sick of seeing the same old blue, white, grey and black, and then after I chose red/brown I saw the Wayne Reynolds concept art and he used colors similar to those I'd chosen, so I was pretty happy about that. Y'all, of course, are free to paint it without a mask and with any colors you would like. There are certainly no "official" colors for anything I paint--being able to follow your individual inspiration is the great joy and freedom of mini-painting. --Anne I watched Derek for a little while he was sculpting it at Reapercon, and also saw the artwork and couldn't wait for it to come out. My favorite recent piece is probably the mounted undead knight that Kevin sculpted that just got put up. I had enough time to do a nice job and really liked the weathered bronze armor. On the frost giant princess, after I put it together the gap was very small and after I put in the shading it just disappeared visually, so I didn't putty it because originally it was on a deadline. Had this been a piece for competition instead of a gallery photo I would definitely have filled it, most likely with some Aves or a touch of greenstuff. --Anne
DavidVC04
I love Anne's rendition and will probably emulate a good bit of it. Yes, the face has always struck me as odd, but I think the mask interpretation looks pretty cool. Are these new giants really part of a coming Warlord faction?
