Hells_Clown
I just bought a Crimson Guard mini and was surprised when I saw it came with a plasct base instead of the usual metal. Is this a change in how the figures will be packaged or a packing error or something else?
sparky
I noticed that too, with the latest and greatest templars. I believe (not an offical answer) that was done to keep cost down for us the players as prices of the casting metals have been going up as late. If you look at the prices in the online store there was cost increase a few months ago across the board because of the cost of casting metal (something I heard about at either Origins or Gencon, can't remember which). I don't mind the plastic bases, it lighten the fig up just a touch, an when you having to haul around armies that is a bonus! :D
Whizard Hlavaz
I was a bit surprised by this myself and not at all chuffed. I don't mind having to pay a little more for the base to be included. As it stands now, I'm going to have to shell out for a package of bases for every several minis I buy. :( I wish Reaper would have saved me the hassle of having to order the bases as well and simply packaged them (my FLGS doens't carry Warlord. I have to special order). As I say, I'm paying either way. Oh, well. If that's my only complaint to date with the Warlord product, then I don't have all that much to worry about. :)
Dragon Snack
IIRC, it was noted they would be changing to the plastic bases. My big Warlord order did have some metal bases, but to be honest I'll end up rebasing them anyway so I can add flocking and such. It was nice to have them for some other minis though... sparky
Don't make me lie to you, but I don't know that Reaper packages the metal sloted bases for sale. I know that they carry metal bases of a similar size but they are recessed not slotted.
ladystorm
hmm, they had them for sale at the summer cons... RPR 74008 1" Square Slotted Base (horizontal) (4) $4.00 RPR 74009 1" Square Slotted Base (diagonal) (4) $4.00 RPR 74010 40mm Square Slotted Base (horizontal) (2) $4.00 RPR 74011 40mm Square Slotted Base (diagonal) (2) $4.00 I didn't see them in the online store. (and if you don't know for sure, and you say that, you're not lying, you're doing fine there Sparky ) cbs
sparky
Darn Fat Fingers, they don't type as fast as I think and I missed a word from my usual catch phash "Don't make me lie to you" meaning I don't know for sure and that it is not necessarily gospel. I've got it fix now though. Thanks for the info LadyStorm, I didn't get to seriously go shopping at Gencon.
Steven Page
I know one of the major factors in the decision to cast anything in plastic is "how many can we move". Plastic products require more expensive steel molds. I also know a lot of us have been using a competitior's plastic bases, or making our own wood or metal bases, because of the price of the metal one sold separately.(I, for one, have and intend to use over 400 DHA figures in my WARLORD armies. That's a lot of basing dollars.) If Reaper bags and sells the plastic bases, they can save all of us a lot of money, and capture incremental sales with there DHA figures as well. The savings of costs on WARLORD figures can help "hold the line" as well. It seems an admirable business decision to me. BTW, I only switched to GW plastic bases after building my Hirstarts dungeon, and discovering my wooden bases were often "off" by about 1/32 of an inch. Two, side by side, were too wide to fit the hallways. It was quicker and easier to rebase everyone, than to try to rwemove the excess from all those basswood bases. haldir
I buy the GW plastic bases & glue my DH line to them, as I like having a uniform base to my minis, the switch to plastic is no big to me. I would love to see Reaper bulk pack the plastics stuff, then I wouldn't have to rely on GW at all :p :D Randy M
Hells_Clown
It's no big deal for me either. I was just curious as to wether it was an across the board change or not. I'll still buy the figures if I like em. I don't buy em for the bases anyway. :p
Star Drifter
I think I'm going to just remove the tabs and flock mine from now on. (After painting the last one, I came to realize that the tab goes before the paint job - unless I want dust and scratches on the mini. Whoops.) I don't see myself ever playing in any Warlord games, but the bases only seem to come out a small fraction of an inch larger anyway.
