Sinden
Real dwarfs are red necks with catapults on blocks in front of there mountain. Would of been much better if they did them this way...
Chrome
I MUST say this..... WORST DWARF DESIGN IN FANTASY!!! WORST I have EVER seen! Dear God what the hell were they thinking? " Hmmm, arteests, we need a Dwarven Bad butt. " " Dwarven bad butt? " " That is what I said. Yes. Dwarven bad butt. ' " Dwarf " " If you ask me again I swear to God I will tear off your arms and beat you to death with them. " ".............. " " But let's make them different! " " Dwarven bad butt? " What did I just say!! YES!! A Stunty little bastard with red hair and bad attitude!........................ But not! " " Ok............." Art director gets out of ear shot " jerk. " End result this guy........................ I mean really.... I find myself wondering if this guy lost a bet. All that text and I'm still not sure why exactly you don't like him/them. Do you just not like red-headed dwarves? Also your image isn't working. I'm guessing that you're talking about Ohgren? The final NPC that they unveiled over the weekend? Chrome
Heh, I like how they threw some of the "Tolkien" archetypes typical in fantasies nowadays into a blender with history.Dwarves that are political? Interesting. I'm not sure that political is the correct term. They still have a king and royalty and their society is ruled by a pretty strict caste system. What does seem different from Tolkien and D&D is the back-stabbing that seems to go on in the royal court. I always thought that D&D portrayed dwarves and elves as some kind of societies where everyone got a long with everyone else and was content to simply follow the leader. The Origins story for the royal dwarf sure shows that's not true in this game. I am really enjoying this thread tho - its a perfect example of "different strokes for different folks"! Earlier this year Drakensang: The Dark Eye got panned by lots of people for being to unoriginal and uninspired - that it was just a copy of D&D. (lots of people = general public/press, not anyone here) Now here we have the exact opposite opinions about DA - that its too different from D&D. BTW I'm a pretty happy camper today. We had a pizza party for my son's flag football team last night and the boys bought me a gift certificate to a local game store (I coached the team). So I can use that to buy DA and use the money that I'd planned on spending on DA to pick up either the WoW or Starcraft board games I found for 1/2 price yesterday. haldir
I thought the vid with the dwarf was funny at the end. He starts to tell a tale & then passes out. So I bought the Pathfinder Bestiary pdf the other day, so I'm looking forward to that in dead tree version, but I now wish Amazon.com could tell you when that pre-order was coming out. Eh, either way I'll be playing the game, pre-order stuff or not. (now I gotta order the Adventure Pack for LOTRo, ha ha---lifetime member there, so I get some benefits!!) Chrome
I ordered mine last night from the store my kids got me the gift card for. The store mainly sells used games and only console games at that, but the manager thought he should still be able to order the PC game for me through his distributor. That was really cool to me b/c I don't have a newer console and the last thing I wanted to do was buy $80 worth of PS 1 games for my son. So I should be getting a copy of the CE on Tuesday - maybe as early as Monday b/c he said he'd just call me when the shipment came in that day! The only downer is that I won't get any of those unique items available through Game Stop or Amazon, but then I guess its not like this is an MMO and I'll be the only player w/out that stuff. Speaking of multiplayers I was really excited in till i saw it was only a single player game. :/Dont really want a MMO but be able to play with friends is a big plus for me. I know that the biggest reason they made this single player was because of the story. Your party members are supposed to do a lot to drive the storyline and that'd be totally gone if you replaced your entire party with player characters. Sure, they could just allow you to make your party larger, like if the normal game is your character plus 3 NPCs, in multiplayer you could have 3 humans and 3 NPCs, or 4 humans and 2 NPCs, etc, but then the game balance is all out of whack b/c now your party is larger than what they had in mind when designing the battles. Another thing to remember about this game is that when Bioware says the story is a big part of the game, what they really mean is that the story is a gigantic freaking behemoth. From the previews and hands-ons that I've seen the game has an enormous amount of spoken dialog. That kind of stuff is really tedious for multiplayer games b/c every person digests that kind of stuff at different speeds. Hell, some people don't care about it all. I used to play Guild Wars a lot and at the end of missions there'd be some kind of cut screen that tied up/advanced the storyline and 9 times out of ten I'd be the only player in the group who actually wanted to sit and watch the whole thing. They showed you an "X out of Y players want to skip this" message while the movie played. The other thing is that the type of combat the game is going to have doesn't really lend itself to multiplayer. Its not a Diablo click-fest, its pause-able, tactical combat, and I'm sure that there'll be lots of times where you'll want to pause the game to glance around the map and look for advantages the terrain might offer you, or to see what types of monsters you're up against, or to see if there's any special gear you might want to use for that specific fight. Its going to be a lot like the original Baldur's Gate and I played that online with a few friends when it first came out. Now granted we had to deal with frustrations like dial-up modems and only being able to communicate via typing, but even with everyone having hi-speed connections and voice chat now, nothing ruins a game more than having to sit there staring at your screen while your buddy rifles through his inventory trying to find something or takes his time studying the battlefield. Stuff like that are little annoyances at first, but by the time you're 5th level they've become so annoying that they've sucked most of the fun out of the game. Chrome
I finished DAJ the first time thru last night and managed to get two unlocks too. The one for killing an Ogre with your party at full strength and the one for killing two enemies with one attack. The ogre one was pretty simple; force field is your friend. I used that and Dirty Fighting from my rogue to keep the ogre out of the game while my fighter killed the other two guys, then beat on the ogre with everyone. Once I had him close to dead I had my wizard drink a mana potion and then spammed the ogre w/forcefield again. While he was incapacitated my other two guys drank health potions to get back to 100% and then killed him off. The two guys with one attack thing was really more a case of luck than anything else. Two of the badguys finally stood next to each other close enough to my warrior so that he could get in and hit them both. I'd reported a bug 2 days ago that everytime I logged back into the game it told me that I needed to redo one or both of the surveys I'd already taken. Surprisingly they got back to me a few hours later saying they'd "fixed it", so I was really surprised when I logged in to find out they replaced the survey unlock with a new one - now you have to beat the game on Hard in order to unlock the wizard's amulet. I was 2/3 done with the stupid surveys and now I have to play all the way thru on hard to get the same prize. I figured I'd take Vil's advice and use a double mage party to beat the game on Hard, but now I'm having my doubts. First I had my main character take Fire Strike or whatever it's called. The description says the spell only shoots in a straight line, but it didn't mention anything about only being able to shoot horizontally across the hexes. It's totally useless! I'm almost to lvl 3 and out of the 2 dozen or so fights I've been in, only once have I been able to hit more than 1 monster with the stupid spell. And even then I had to stand in the hex next to the front guy and my spell triggered his defensive strike! I did like 20 pts to each of them and took 25 myself. I'm at the mission now where I have to fight the thieves and I may just call it quits and start over. I played it twice and both times that 2-hander chick got backstabbed to death on the first turn. I didn't kill a single rogue.

I didn't kill a single rogue. I didn't use the primal spells for my mage--mostly mind blast or whatever it is, alternating with regular ranged attacks and heals. As for the warden, I usually have her switch to sword and shield and take the shield talent which prevents flanking--very useful against the rogues. I hope the unlock requirement change didn't retroactively remove the amulet...I'll have to go check...
Kataclysm
Ahh, Bioware how you make me laugh. I wasn't too excited about this game, yes the video looks pretty impressive, but honestly it doesn't really show anything. Then i read someplace it was the spiritual successor to the Baldur's Gate PC games and dug as bit deeper. For sure going to be picking this up. Guess my wow guild will be without me for a bit lol. And now I here ME2 is being released end of January. Might as well cancel my wow account now :) Also, Minsc was my fav. But, that bard that ran away all the time "Better part of Valor!!!" Going to have to dig up some sound files and make me some Minsc ringtones now so i can mess with people at work some more.
HANZO
It was anounced a while back. Greenronin is making the tabletop RPG How I found out about the game back during the first announcement. I am a total GR fan boy. So I'm getting it. That dwarf looks much cooler in the pic on their website. Or is that the same dwarf? Ok there may or may not be another or similar red headed dwarf. Chopping at a wolf. I guess dwarves just look cooler when screaming into battle....or drunk. Or screaming into battle drunk. Otherwise they look like the other picture. Chrome
Oooooo... Now all we really need is to make Dragon RAGE. And now I here ME2 is being released end of January. Might as well cancel my wow account now :) I'm pretty much in the same boat. The one thing that might prevent me from canceling is that a friend and I created 2 new characters a while ago in a pact that we'd only play them together at the same time. No soloing or grouping w/other people. (w/the exception of working on professions) Problem is that we've only been able to squeeze them in twice in the last 2 1/2 months. Not really worth the $15/month I've been playing.
Chrome
I've picked it up, but its going to be several hours before I get to play it. I'm currently at the hospital w/my wife. She was scheduled to have surgery early this afternoon but before they started they noticed something in her films and decided to postpone the surgery and do more tests. So I'm waiting for her to return from radiology where she's getting an MRI. I've got my laptop here with me, but I don't think it'll run DA. This is the third surgery in a year that my wife's had for her condition, so its kinda nice to have something to distract me for a little while.
