Reaper Harvest

Alright, here is the deal. Privateer Press runs an event during the holiday season called The Thrall Harvest. Participating stores run an event where players bring in cans of food. Each can gets them a re-roll in the games played that day. It's very popular, so last year my shop went a step beyond and four different game systems hosted a can drive event; (Hordes/Warmachine, Warlord, Flames of War, Pokemon). I don't recall the numbers, but we collected several hundred cans. All of the cans were donated to local food banks. I delivered around half the cans to a food bank in my town, and they couldn't believe we collected that many cans by hosting a game.

This is my challenge – I want to see how many cans we can raise hosting Reaper events. They can be Warlord, CAV, and even paint events. For that matter, if you want to run more than one event and total the cans, go for it! “Why bother”, you ask? For starters, it's good karma to do things like this. It's good for those who participate and it is a positive image for us gamers and your local store. And for the “What's in it for me?” crowd, I will donate one of my custom built dice rolling towers to the person/club/store that raises the most cans. The dice tower isn't built yet, so I can't tell you what it looks like. Enough people on the forum have seen what I am capable of, so I'll let them testify that they are fairly neat. Also, since this is a great thing, I'm thinking that I'll go to town building this one.

Here are the guidelines:

1.This is my challenge. It is not sponsored or sanctioned by Reaper, so don't pester them about it.

2.The event(s) must be Reaper events. (Feel free to collect cans running events with other game systems, but they don't count toward this challenge).

3.The events need to be run between November 1st and December 15th, 2009. The cans collected must be donated to a charity organization before Christmas.

4.The event can be any RAGE system game, a Reaper paint event, or a combination of them.

5.Posting of descriptions of your events on the Reaper forum is encouraged. At minimum, I want communication from the person who runs the event telling me how many cans you collect and a picture of the cans.

6.If someone brings in itty bitty little cans that only cost him a quarter apiece, only count those as ½ cans. (Yes, it's been done, which is why I included it.) If a guy brings in large cans such as a school or restaurant would use, count them as three cans each.

7.This is a new idea, so I reserve the right to make changes to the rules if it becomes necessary. I will only do so if it is critical that I do so.

8.This is for fun, so don't anybody get all bound up over it.

I already have an offer from one of the painters on the forum to do a mini as an additional prize. We just have to decide what mini to have her paint. If anybody else wants to donate a prize, that would be cool. Send me a PM if you are interested in donating a prize. If there are enough donations, maybe I can award stuff to second and third place too. We will have to see about that.

Our Warlord event last year was called Cart Wars, and it was crazy good fun. If anybody is interested, I can post rules for that scenario.

And finally, I expect my local shop to win, so when it happens you can't say I didn't warn you!

Well drats... The thought is awesome so I'm going to have to try it for my Magic players (each can is a buck off entry fee or something). Thanks for the great idea even if I can't participate in your challenge.

The guy I talked to at our game store is no longer there..so it's back to square one for us..and add to that the flu, which has kept us both away from there for two weeks now. Otherwise I'd like to help. It just seems to not be in the cards for us this year.

I realize that nobody else chose to participate in this, but it won't stop me from bragging about my FLGS anyway. We had our can drive event this weekend. The Trouble in Christmastown scenario that Sergei and I designed was a big hit. We had a ton of fun, and collected 19 dozen (228) cans of food. Not bad at all for a hole in the wall sort of game store.

I hope to make it to part 2, in Dayton!

Actually, Dayton is part 4 or 5. We have two events this weekend and I still need to work out a date for The Keep in Massilon. Whatever part of the puzzle it is, it will be a good time. Oh, and make sure you bring lots of cans. In our game we burned through 54 tickets (cans) in the first run. The most used for to modify a single roll was 36 (8 re-rolls). The re-roll aspect makes the game crazy fun!
