Jen
My husband and I used to play 40K. We don't anymore, but we still have a few armies in various stages of paintedness. So, for this year's project, I have pulled out his Imperial Guard. That's something close to 200 infantry, officers, and other guys. There's also half a dozen or so tanks and some walkers that aren't pictured. This is probably the biggest project I've tried to take on all at once. Since I'll be doing other stuff at the same time, I expect it'll probably take about a year to complete. Assuming I don't find more infantry. When I was cleaning 'em up and primering them, every box I opened seemed to be more infantry. I forsee lots and lots of Devlan Mud in my future. fodder
Good luck! As cool as IG were, they get a little blah after a while. I hope you find some noninfantry stuff to break up the monotany.
wyrmgear
Holy smokes that's a ton of models! I attempted to paint a Lizardmen army this year, deciding this would be the year I stopped just painting and start playing. I got one unit done and was so bored with the painting I quit. I still have the rest of the army sitting on a shelf... Best of luck to you in this endeavor!
Lastman
There's a movie on Netflix called the Mutant Chronicles that sounds stupid, but I watched it anyway and was pleasantly surprised. The on-topic part of this post is that it's about IG vs. Chaos and mutants, though not officially.
Jen
Mutant Chronicles is its own game universe and system...well, a number of systems. There was a board game, a 40K-like minis game, there's some other minis game out now with pre-done plastic figures, I think there may have even been an RPG at some point, and I'm pretty sure there was a card game. Probably some other incarnations that I don't know about, too. But I do have a few figures from their original minis game.
Jen
Okay, here we go! First squad: I think the big overcoats will make these guys quick, relatively. The coats are going to be beige. I might go blue, olive green, or a redder brown on the pants and stuff; haven't decided yet.
Nanite
Valhallans! One of the classics. Looking forward to your progress!
Jen
It's been a while, but I have made some progress. These guys were actually done a couple weeks ago, but I've been holiday busy and haven't had a chance to get them up before now. Asute observers will notice the squad got bigger since I started it. I did some math, and in order to get everything to break down evenly decided to stick a couple extra guys into each group.
Heisler
They look great but that base edging is awful bright. I would suggest a nice dark chocolate brown which will contrast nicely with the overcoats
Jen
The colorful edging is so that when they're on the table, I can tell at a glance which guys are part of the same squads. The next group will have a different color on the edge, and so on.
Jen
OK, finished another group of Valhallans this last month. They look pretty much like the last group, so the picture represents progress on the project as a whole. The observant may notice a psyker stuck in there, too. I have one more group of random Valhallans, and then it'll be on to a different flavor of infantry.
Jen
No no, there's been progress, really! Just finished up all the Valhallans. I think that puts me about a third of the way through, maybe a bit more. Next up, Tollarns. These guys are the bulk of the rest of the infantry. I had a pattern for painting the Valhallans pretty much down to a science. I'm hoping I can get these guys figured out pretty quick.
Jen
And, a finished batch of Tollarns. These guys have actually been done for a couple weeks, just now getting around to taking pictures. I've got something like 4 squads of these guys, plus stragglers. Once they're done, that will be the bulk of the infantry.
Steven Page
Very nice work! I enjoyed the first couple of dozen Valhallans I painted. Maybe one day i will get inspired to finish the others. The Tallarn look great too, and are a nice contrast to the "Russian-ness' of the Valhallans. Keep up the progress!
Ferox
I like it! The clean, hard edges between the grey base sides and the tan/khaki scenic tops really works well. And I'm a sucker for sci-fi infantry using the sights on their rifles-- er, lasguns. Good stuff.
