Demonic lasher colors

Recommended Posts

I don't have a 1st ed Monster Manual or the Book of Vile Darkness handy so can some one remind me how Demagorgon is colored? I'd like to paint mine up as close to the "original" as possible.  Never mind I painted the Gnoll Lord the way I wanted...

Also, if anyone knows the colors for Orcus, that'd be much appreciated as well (since he's in the green bath at the moment anyway).

From 1st ED MM :

"His blue-green skin is plated with snake-like scales."

That's pretty much all the color description for Demogorgon though it does go on to describe him as "cold blooded" in appearance ala "serpents, reptiles, and octopi"

"his huge grey body is covered with goatish hair, and his head is goat-like although his horns are similar to those of a ram."

Demogorgon - This gigantic demon is 18' tall and reptilian.  Demogorgan has two heads which bear the visages of evil baboons or perhaps mandrills with the hideous coloration of the latter named beasts.  His blue-green skin is plated with snake-like scales, his body and legs are those of a giant lizard, his twin necks resemble snakes, and his thick tail is forked.  Tather then having arms, he has great tentacles.  His appearance testifies to his command of cold-blooded things such as serpants, reptiles, and octopi.

Orcus - Orcus is a grossly fat demon lord, some 15' tall.  His huge gray body is covered with goatish hair, and his head is goat-like although his horns are similar to those of a ram.  His great legs are also goat-like, but his arms are human.  Vast bat wings sprout from his back, and his long, snaky tail is tipped with a poisonous head.

Both those descriptions are directly out of the Monster Manual for 1st edition AD&D.  I may add on a personaly note that although I would go with a gray for Orcus I would make it more of an undead type color for the skin.  He is after all the Prince of the Undead.  My basing for that miniature also included him stepping on skull heads and a zombie rising out of the dirt in his wake.

Hope that helps.

I knew I could count on the the folks on this page to come up with the info.  That give me a starting point at least.  The lasher is gonna be tough to paint methinks, due to all the bumps and spikes and the like.  It was somewhat tough to paint on the primer anyway.

I remembered Orcus was prince of the undead but the last time I tried painting him a pale blue it didn't look right.  I'll have to experiment with some different colors and find one that looks right.

I'll have to get a digi cam and post a pic of my gnoll lord, I think he came out rather nicely.

One more thing: the base of the lasher is HUGE.  Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might base him on for better balance and over all looks?

It's an official base size in Warlord, yes.

Are you serious?  :p  AOL CD's are an official base size? That's great. I'm very chuffed. Ha!

Now then, back on topic of color -- I've since put my lasher aside to concentrate on a couple of other minis, but when I return to him, I'm definitely doing his faces up like mandrills.

I mean, look at this:

How mean is that!!!   :O

Great creature, the mandrill. Really, really super mean.
