Moderator Froggy the Great Posted November 10, 2009 Moderator Share Posted November 10, 2009 Dash Eartop, exile from the Annouri courts, and dashing hero estraordinaire. Why, only last week he singlehandedly rescued Loryn Stormblade (lovely young woman and very heroic, but not all that strong) from a ravaging Arkleheimer Beast with nothing but a half-drained raygun battery! I think these are the best reds I've managed to accomplish in a good long while. Please critique everything (except the base, I know it's not my best). Thanks!
Mr.Wizard
I guess the blade could use a good honing, but other than that, he's one dashing fellow! Nice work!
Lastman
The red highlights on the left top and right edges of the rear cape look a bit uncontrolled. The overall effect looks great tho. Frog knows red.
psyberwolfe1
Overall looks nice. I think your skin tones need more shadows and highlights. The Gold Ray gun is pretty boss. I think the blade is a little drab. The red looks close to perfect, but I would add a final bright highlight like a flesh tone or Phoenix Red to make some ok the edges. This more highlight is especially true around the neck. Pretty cool as always Master Frog.
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted November 11, 2009 Author Moderator Share Posted November 11, 2009 The thing with reds is that I can't see them well at all - I thought that the big fat Crayola purple markers were just intense blue when I was 6. I can tell value, but being able to discern tone and hue is a lot harder. Psyberwolfe1, Which flesh tones would you use to highlight the red? Then glaze over it with clear red if it looks too white.
awong
Very nice work on the red cape...looks like a very plush velvet. I agree also that the ray gun is cool (for some reason, it really reminds me of the Sandman pistols...dial back that "way back machine" :) ). -AW
Ironhammer
I actually really like the use of gold on the ray-gun as opposed to your usual basic metal. It makes it stand out more, and for some reason just seems to give the mini even more of a 30's/50's sci-fi look. I'd say that the sword could use some gadgetry though, like a vibration module and power pack.
Jabberwocky
Very nice piece, Froggy! I like the rich red you got accomplished. Well done work on the hair. I like the gold ray gun; it definitely adds to the pulp sci-fi feel and helps to add a bit of visual interest, in my opinion. Critiques...the sword blade is pretty dark and could use some highlighting toward the tip, in my opinion, not so much on the edge, but on the flat of the blade. While I really like the coloring of the cape, there are a few spots that could use a bit of smoothing of the transitions, especially on the back of the cape on the model's right side about where the arm is. The armor is nicely done, but there is a lot of blue going on there. Perhaps make the chainmail gold or the boots a different color? Hmm...maybe coloring the satchel(?) something more contrasting then the black to set it off from the armor. I hope this helps!
Lyn
Great job with the colors! The only things that I see is that I agree that there should be a little more highlighting on the sword and maybe work on the face a little more. the eyes just look like slits. lol
