DFo
It's been a very long time indeed since I've posted anything, but that's because it's been a long time since I've PAINTED anything. I painted this figure up to represent one of my adventuring companion's DnD character in our current campaign. He specified a LOT of browns, but I tried to add a little colour wherever I could. The sculpt is absolutely gorgeous and the quality of the casting was impeccable. I certainly didn't do it justice, but what a pleasure to paint. Anyway, here he is: Comments, critiques and especially advice are always welcome. I think I've had it with metallic paints had will finally have to cross that bridge and start trying some NMM techniques. Scary!
awong
You wouldn't happen to have lighter pictures would you? He's very hard to make out currently. However, of what I can see...I like. Also, you're getting a white edge around the figure (I'm guessing from your selection tool) that's a bit distracting. Try a search on the internet for "pulling mattes" or removing backgrounds (This popped up with photoshop pulling mattes). That'll give you some cool tips and tricks on separating out items so you can paste them into new backgrounds...then you can come over and work in the film industry as a roto-artist -AW
Wilwarin
He looks pretty nice, though I do agree, lighter pictures would help more. :) From what I see he looks pretty good!
DFo
I asked for advice, so it'd be pretty bad form if I didn't take it - I've taken new pictures and re-done the photoshopping in the hopes of providing something a bit more visible. I think this is about the best I can do with the tools I have. Thanks for the feedback!
awong
Definitely better, but it's still a bit dark. I'm afraid my comments may not reflect the work that you actually have done so take it with a grain (or cellar) of salt. I like the skin tone chosen for this piece. I think you could bring up the contrast (lighten the highlights and go deeper with some shadows) to help the facial features pop. He's sculpted with a very prominent brow and strong cheek bones, which would benefit from some highlights. The leather work looks very nice. If anything, I'd try to pick a different color for the hair. To me it's reading metallic, much like the weaponry. Lastly, I'd punch up the base a bit. Gotta give it a little love too, just to help ground the mini and give him a context. Those broccoli bases are way too generic. Glad to see you posting minis again! -AW
