Cypharius
So far, I'm very impressed with being able to use the MSP range through my airbrush. I've until recently been using VMC for anything with a brush and using the VMA range for use in the airbrush, the big problem is lack of range crossover between the two, and some of my most used colours from the VMC range were either not available or difficult (for me! ) to colour mix / match. This is a big plus for me, being able to use use one colour set for both duties. Mix some Luquitex Airbrush medium in at 1:1 with the RMS paint and it's ready to blast. (This is even through a very fine 0.15mm needle.) Excellent stuff.

I found that simple distilled water works well with the RMS. The pigment is so fine it just flows through the brush. Now if only the painter could learn to control the brush I'd be good to go. Cypharius
That's exactly MY problem too. "All the gear, No idea... "
psyberwolfe1
That's exactly MY problem too. "All the gear, No idea... " Practice on a paper plate. Works wonders, or basecoating armies. The key is playing around with PSI, and if you have a double action brush then working with trigger control.
Mad Pat
I go the JesterFoo method of using windex to cut my paint on a 2-1 basis. Other then a small instance of almost putting my airbrush through the wall a few weeks back, it works wonderfully! But that was a hardware issue
Reaper User Vaitalla Posted January 27, 2010 Reaper User Share Posted January 27, 2010 Great thread, guys, and thanks for mentioning Jester's method, Pat. It's good to know that the paint works with a variety of thinners. Please let me know if you discover any issues, we love being able to advertise MSP's as airbrush-friendly! --Anne
skya
I'll add to those happy with MSPs through the airbrush, though I tend to use a mixture of Liquitex airbrush medium and Windex. (I cant breathe around the amount of Windex Jester uses. *shudders*) It's worth noting that if you have VMC, they mix pretty well with MSPs through an airbrush as well. Which makes me a very happy camper as there are colors I use regularly that I couldnt be able to mix otherwise.
Cypharius
I've been doing a bit more over the last day or so with the airbrush and tried to use water rather than liquitex medium and there's a stark difference between what was sprayed with liquitex and what was sprayed more recently with a RMS : Water mix. (1:1) The liquitex mixed paint section is a nicer colour, the watered mix has come out as a more pastel / chalky, lighter colour. I'll put up a pic later if I can get the camera to capture the colour difference. It's not a huge problem, as I tend to use medium more than water for mixing through the airbrush, but it's an interesting difference. Anyone have any ideas on this? EDIT: Can someone link me the Windex approach please?

Huh, that might relate to some of the problems I've been having with a couple specific RMSs I use for regular mini painting. Maybe I'll trying thinning with medium instead. Bet that it'd flow off my brush real weird though...

Mad Pat
I'm not sure the Windex approach has ever been published, unless its deep in the archives. Basically its two drops of paint to one drop of Windex, but that was Jester using a gravity feed. I use 2 parts paint to 1 part Windex measured by weight on a digital scale. Windex is also run through the airbrush after wards to clean it out, and works wonders. Amusingly Jester did some tests and affirms that it has to be actual store bought brand name Windex to work well, he tried several other brands and knock offs and the mix wasn't right. Cypharius
I've spent some time this evening going over that model, specifically covering the frontal area, which looked bad. I mixed the paint with the Liquitex airbrush thinner on a 1:1 and it's now looking a nice colour tone all over the model. Note to self. Stick with the airbrush medium as a mixer... Yes, original blue brand-name Windextm with MSPs (in a 3:2 paint to Windex ratio) through a gravity feed Iwata AB.
Mad Pat
yep 3 to 2 is a better mix then what I've been doing but again I was going off what Jester told me ages ago.

That's because he didn't want you to know the real secret ratio
