jah-joshua
hey Reaper people... well, i fixed a few things after the comments and critique from the first submission... i've also added views that show the freehand on the wreathed skull on top of his backpack... the front angle was so overshadowed, the inscription "Ignea" didn't show up in the pics... the full 360 view can be found here: http://coolminiornot.com/244211 i really had fun painting this mini, and got to try out a few new techniques (such as realistic flames, and glowing lenses), as well as working on my battledamage and dramatic lighting... he ended up doing quite well in the Bolter and Chainsword contest, taking second in the Single Mini category, and first in the People's Choice... hope you like him... thanks for lookin'... cheers jah
rgtriplec
Very nice. All the Freehand work is great. I love the flaming boot. How long did the mini take to paint?
Shawn350
Wow Amazing! love it! I never thought of copying minis right out of the books I have to give that a shot seems like it would make you paint things you wouldnt normally try. jah-joshua
thanks guys... i can see now, looking back at the pics, that i really should have kicked the brightness up one more notch before i posted the pics... oh well, live and learn... it's always the way with photo editing... when i look back with a more objective view a week later, all i see are the mistakes with the photography... @shawn: this guy is not a copy of a studio mini, that's the Lord Commissar in the other post... copying any studio mini (wether it's Reaper, PP, GW, Infinity, Enigma, or whatever) really pushes you to try out new techniques and schemes... it also saves you from the stress of wondering if a scheme will work, as a version of the end result is already in front of you... it's mostly about pushing the paint skills... the Lord Commissar was an exercise in painting the 5 O' Clock shadow, which i hadn't tried before, and some freehand... the tight, straight, lines are not that hard to paint, but when you take pics, it really shows you if you've painted it well or not... any little bump or bulge in that fine line pops out, but is not so noticable in hand... photography is really a great tool for improving the paint skills... what looks good in hand is not what look good in pics... lookin' at a pic a few days after you've finished a mini will show you every little thing that can be improved... it can also make you wanna pull your hair out... cheers jah
wyrmgear
Beautiful work; very striking with smooth colors. I am a big fan of green, but usually found the studio jobs by (the very talented) 'eavy Metal team just... I don't now. Not deep enough I guess. Great work, thank you for sharing this one.
