rgtriplec
I think this is from 1979 and is a Tom Meier sculpt... at least that is what the guy on ebay thought. I'm not sure what scale it is... definitely smaller than old/traditional/scalp to sole 25mm. Maybe 18-20mm, the dwarfs are 3/4" foot to top of head. It took about three stripping sessions to get it clean. It had been painted and repainted a couple times. The paint was so thick that the wood-grain, engravings and faces were gone. So, I was pleased to see the detail underneath after the stripping. It also was covered in piles of rubber cement and super glue. The bulk of it primered. These details were covered in layers of paint and could not be seen. I'll post more after I get the base coats on.
Mercius
Love old school stuff, this is going to be a blast to paint, look forward to all the updates and watching it progress!
Heisler
This is indeed a 25mm Ral Partha piece. I always felt that Ral Partha made their dwarves shorter than most at the time, but it is 25mm.

I was looking at my 25mm elf chariot tonight and you're probably right... the wheels on both match pretty well.
rgtriplec
Here is the base coat. I am making the dwarfs blue, because I don't have any blue dwarfs and want some. Also, it is bothering me that the gun barrel is wood. Should I convert this into a rolling "still" instead. I mean dwarfs are drinkers are they not? It already has the boiler, copper kettle, copper tubing and such. All I'd need is a few barrels and to mod the end of the barrel with a cap and more copper tubing. What do you think? Mercius
Looks great so far, especially the wood. The dwarves are a little "smurfy" for me, but if you have read any of my posts, I am a dwarf freak, and all my dwarves are always based off of the Middle Earth school of dwarves...plump and ruddy cheeked chaps. I am sure they will look great though....I am just wierd about dwarves lol.
morganm
I wouldn't get too hung up on a wood barrel. It's reinforced with metal and it's magicly enhanced right? =) Perhaps it is Darkwood or Ironwood or some other super strong fantasy wood. Maybe it's just wood on the outside of a metal barrel? Alternativly you could smooth out the wood with greenstuff and paint it as metal.

Mercius
Ahhhhh...ok....I should have assumed that, but I am at work and been busting my brain all day on these engineering plans and that totally slipped me. Like I said, it all looks good so far, I am excited to see where this goes...these are the types of miniatures my uncle used when he DM'd our 2nd edition game back when I was a young 'un so I love seeing all the old school stuff! I wouldn't get worked up about it either, but a self-propelled steam-powered still is just too damn cool to pass up.
Doug Sundseth
Also, it is bothering me that the gun barrel is wood. Should I convert this into a rolling "still" instead. I mean dwarfs are drinkers are they not? Up to you, of course, but the Mythbusters showed that wooden cannon can work, so it's not obviously stupid. Mini Killer
I like the "still" ideal. I really like the way the wood work is comeing out.
rgtriplec
@ Morganm True. It could be magical or be of some fantasy wood. @ Doug Very cool. I found the video and watched it. @ Minikiller and Ferox - Yes, the still idea is tempting me. Hopefully I'll get a lot done this weekend. Mercius
dwarves should have a good ale or stout available for extra courage at all times imo.
