Black hair recipes

I'm tired of my standard recipe for black hair (black, grey blue triad) and wonder what other people use. This is strictly for tabletop level so I don't need anything too crazy.

Have you tried the Stone Colors triad? The brownish-greys work pretty well, and wouldn't require mixing anything .

I use Blood Black, shade with black, highlight with ruddy brown (both my wife and mom have very dark almost black hair and this a close match)

ATM - I'll give that a try in this batch. I actually try to stay away from grey when highlighting black for the most part.

 

capt - I already do a dark brown in the troops so I don't want to highlight with browns. I don't feel they would stand out enough from hair painted with the classic browns (walnut, etc.).

I use dark elf flesh triad for black hair, usually adding some ghost white.

Try highlighting black with a flesh colour. I got that tip off of a thread on another forum. I haven't experimented with it a lot, but am happy with the experiments I've done so far. I believe I highlighted this mini's hair with tanned flesh or tanned highlight.

Yeah, I use the tanned skin or even the fair skin triads to mix my black hair highlights. All depends on how bright I want the shine.
