MamaGeek
I was browsing around Home Depot last weekend when I found these things called forged iron shoes with the stair parts. I thought it could make a really neat bottom for a scenic base, so I picked up a couple for $1.50 each. They only had one kind at the store, but when I went home and searched online, I found they come in all different styles and sizes. Here's an example of a pretty standard stair shoe: The opening at the top of mine is about 1/2". It is heavy iron, so not something you can really modify, but it is hollow, so you can plug it with green stuff, or get creative with scenic water. The possibilities are endless! Bruunwald
Also at Home Depot are these cool chunky bits of wood that go on the corner posts of fences. I almost remembered what they were called a moment ago... Anyway, those also make decent bases if you're looking for something you can stain for a display piece. I used six of them, upside-down as the feet for my 4-foot-by-four-foot gaming table, to give it a little class. You can find them near the lumber with the other fencing stuff. Mercius
I recently bought some wooden circles at michaels that work as nice bases...they are almost around the 60mm range....so great for a showpiece and only $1.25 for two of them.
