i don't know why people snipe you on CMON either, Meg...

you must have made some serious enemies over there...

i don't think that any of your work at this quality should score less than 7...

Shurat got an 8, and i think that score is about right...

the Sheik should have gotten a few more tenths of a point, Rhymaiss as well...

we all know CMON is a tough crowd, but your scores seem like people are out to get you lately...

at least your work sells regularly...

you may not be getting the money you want for your work, but it seems like you've built up a loyal fanbase...

that's a hell of a start...

keep it up..

cheers

jah

Yeah it happens all the time. I pretty much figure the one 9.0 score in my gallery is the only one I will ever have. For whatever reason people just enjoy giving me 1s and 2s. It's not nice but I know it doesn't reflect the amount of work I put into something or how good of a paint job it is. Instead it just shows me how petty people can be sometimes. I mean we are painting minis people, not curing cancer. It's not THAT serious a field to get so competitive you are going snipe people.

<climbs off soap box>

@Jah--I have a few ideas as to how I've gained so many enemies but that's not to be discussed here.

Yes i do have a loyal fan base but unfortunately they are all on tight budgets. The good stuff I paint doesn't get high scores or many bids but the tabletop stuff I paint sells. I would rather paint display pieces as that's more interesting and challenging for me. The tough bit about all of this is that this is my only source of income and I'm BARELY making ends meet. I mean I am stretching every dollar I have just about. In a year things will get a bit easier I hope because my car will be paid off but until then I am struggling and would really like to have more commissions. The commissions I had this past week for TT stuff ended up paying for half my monthly expenses. Now I'm trying to make up the other half. So there's money to be made in it and I am not saying I won't do it, I'd just like to mix it up with some display stuff too.

actually, it is a VERY serious, competitive, field...

especially when you consider the amount of people tryin' to make money with mini painting...

still, it would be nice if people didn't feel the need to be jerks...

cheers

jah

Yes Jah I'm saying it shouldn't be though because we are painting toy soldiers not curing a fatal disease or cancer. It's not like miniature painting is going to change the world. It's fun and I love it, it's just not a serious issue, painting toys and therefore I don't understand why it's so competitive. I really don't. I'd rather see people encourage one another and evolve the field.

That is why I put more weight into what I hear on the Reaper forum than what I get on coolmini, although Dragonsreach, Automaton, Scottradom, Cheelfy and Jah always give good advice over there! I might commission a mini from you at some point int the future Meg, just have to find a good reason to give the wife other that "I just want one." LOL!

I've never posted to CMON and never will. If angels descended from the heavens and proclaimed a mini of mine to be the Greatest Mini Ever Painted, I would not trust that crowd to do anything but spit on it.

If it were just tough love and I thought they were just trying to be hard to help us improve, or it was just a tough crowd, that would maybe mean something. But what it has always seemed to be to me, is a big orgiastic mob of juveniles scrambling at a chance to hate.

There's no honesty in that. Or at least, honesty appears to be rare and far between. I can't imagine learning anything from that but the fine art of ignoring people. Which you could learn from any website.

Meg,

I have always marveled at your stuff and this is no exception. He is my second favorite character in the LOTR Books/Movies. I think he turned out exceedingly well even if you had to work a little more. I just spent 6 hours total time trying to fix the eyes of the Dark Sword Amazon I posted this weekend. They eye areas were so small I needed a 30/0 just to get the whites and the pupils done. Finally got them respectable, not that my camera would ever pick it up though.

Keep up the good work.

I wish I could visit you all in Texas this year, but alas, I can not. I would have probably dropped by to see ya. Maybe next time.

It's baffling about those scores Meg..:( CMoN peeps can be a wonky bunch..lol. It doesn't help that people can vote more than once either. maybe us reaper forum folks can spam your scores up..just saying....:) You certainly deserve much higher than what you get.

My guess is that some of those ruthless Frother's folks come over and snipe some of the better painters also.

Your work is really good Meg. Your Legolas is wonderful! I agree with everyone else, your scores are really messed up over there at CMON. It's an interesting site to check out for sure, but don't put too much stock into the voting system. It's a shame that a site that displays such a high caliber and volume of talent, has such a flawed system for rating the quality of someone's work. The voting thing is skewed because it's not just based on opinion, good or bad, but it can be obviously abused by some people if they want to be malicious for whatever reasons... they need to relax and enjoy their own painting more, even if it's for profit or hobby. ::): So don't take it too much to heart. It's good to show the world what you are doing. You just have to take from it what's inspiring and not allow negativity to ruin your day or energy for creating and learning new things.
