Ferox
I've been working on these guys off and on, mostly as a diversion when I burn out on bigger or more complex figures. I think they turned out okay for tabletop figures, and made a good learning experience for shading and highlighting fur. I painted the shadows as washes and the highlights on top of the fur texture, which worked pretty well when I got it right. Some of the shadows are way too abrupt, but from arm's length it's not an issue. I also tried to take the highlights up lighter and the shadows down darker. As I said, I have mixed feelings about how that worked on the fur, but damned if it didn't make the faces look great. Now I just need, say, four more of them to hunt PCs with my gnoll pack. (I suppose I should paint more gnolls some time soon, too.)
nytflyr
Love em! I think the shadowing and highlights worked out fine!

joshuaslater
I never want to meet one, much less a pack of those, in the wild. They are scary beasts. Your painting is the stuff of my nightmares, i.e., bang on.
haldir
Nice!! Love the subtle colors of the spots. What did you base the figs on? A coin?
Ferox
Yep, they're based on nickels, with a bit of Milliput to blend in the broccoli bases. Equivalent-quality bases, designed for gaming, would probably run me way more than $0.05....
Mini Killer
Great job, i like how the spots came out.
cookjimjr
Table top? Darn Real looking Hyenas to me. They look better than some of the more "Accomplished" Wildlife Artists renditions of them. Make sure they laugh at your players characters while they are eating them.LOL
