Darius Glenwell
Spent almost a month on this guy. Used about 7 layers of blues for his skin, 8 shades of browns for the leathers and shaft of his spear. Had fun painting the bones in his necklace and on the wrap as well. Liked the fact he only has 3 teeth too. :) C&C always welcome. Enjoy!
Mercius
Wow! Very impressive work...especially on ths skin and the fiddly bits. That is one pissed off smurf!
Bruunwald
Just going to jump in before some of the responses I smell coming and say that in this case shiny is good. Very appropriate for the wood and the leather, both of which are top notch. I love that vibrant skin. Do I detect some meredius blue in there? Darius Glenwell
Thanks Mercius! Those bones were fun and I love to do leather. Bruunwald, This was after a couple of coats of brush on matte sealant and that was after some spray on satin that I have. But thanks! I like them a bit shiny myself. Bring them to life more. But I understand the need to be a bit duller. The blues I use are from ceramcoat. I used Navy blue as my basecoat. Then kept adding some black into it for the shadows. Started adding white into the basecoat and highlighted up from there. After the last highlight I glazed it with pthalo blue and added a color called Laguna, kind of a blue green as the final highlight. KyleGibson
The mini looks wonderful! I may have to paint this faction. Always prefered the term Jötunn, however.
LadyArgent
I really like the fur! It looks like my fingers would just sink into it.
Darius Glenwell
Thanks Lady Argent! Glad you like it. Kyle: He's a good sized mini to paint. I think if I do another one I will either use some green stuff or mighty putty and fill in the gap between the torso and legs. Really sculpt in some more fur around that area. Bumble_B
I really like this piece. I think a dullcote would make me love it. I want to see those pretty colors minus all the shiney reflections. Great piece!
ThornDJL7
Fantastic work. I'll probably use this as a color reference if I ever do a frost giant. I only get special edition minis and ones I'll use in my campaigns.
cookjimjr
The Skin color is perfect. I would have never thought to use blues. I like the shiny effect on some of the areas, but yeah there are few parts I would have liked to see more dull, but hey everyone has their own style and if it works for you then that is all that matters. The colors over entire piece go well together and the fur is some of the best if seen. Keep up the good work.
Darius Glenwell
Thanks Jim. I've put a couple more coats of matte varnish on him now and seems to help the shininess of it a bit. I've always seen frost giants as blue. From the old AD&D Monster Manuals to the example paint job here on Reaper.

Same, never heard of a frost giant that wasn't blue at least blue tinged and lots of white.
