Scipio
I decided that I wanted a new Empire army and with a minimum of effort possible but with at least a adequate look. I have previous experience with creating a vampire counts army using Army painters quick shade and that worked very good for skeletons and other undeads. See the undead thread for that army: http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?/topic/36010-dipping-project-army-of-the-dead-pic-heavy/ The first completed units is the heavy detachments: Hellblaster with crew: Closeup Hellstorm rockets: Great cannons: Closup: Mortars: Closup:
morganm
These turned out sweet. Any shots pre-dip?
Scipio
These turned out sweet. Any shots pre-dip? No they look really ugly before dipping so I took no photo of them. :)
morganm
These turned out sweet. Any shots pre-dip? No they look really ugly before dipping so I took no photo of them. :) Would you be able to do before and after for the next batch or are they all done now? I know they may not look that good but it helps me (others?) see how you need to paint them up first before dipping. Do you just do a base coat? Any highlights? Do you make your colors a little brighter since the dip will darken the whole model? Or does the dip actually roll off the high spots completely and only gather in the recesses thus it won't darken highlights or higher surfaces? I think it lends to just how well dipping can work if you can see before and after. Especially on these models with brighter colored clothes and lighter skin. I've seen dip work well on dark skin, dark clothes, and bone (such as undead, orcs, etc) but it's nice to see it work well on lighter colors. This was with the army shader stuff? Or something else? Scipio
No they look really ugly before dipping so I took no photo of them. :) Would you be able to do before and after for the next batch or are they all done now? I know they may not look that good but it helps me (others?) see how you need to paint them up first before dipping. I can fix that on the next batch I'm done with before putting the dip on. Do you just do a base coat? Any highlights? Do you make your colors a little brighter since the dip will darken the whole model? Almost only a basecoat. I have done some highlighting in special cercomstances for example the faces of my vampires as I wanted them to "pop" a little more. I paint one shade lighter colour than what I expect in the end after the dipping as it darkens a little when applying the dip even if it is hard to see it after i Black is a bit special as you will have a hard time shading it so instead I handle it a bit differntly. I paint neutral grey and wash it in badab black wash before applying the dip. This was with the army shader stuff? Or something else? Yes I use the Army Painter quick shade, the darkest shade. I have tried the other shades from Army painter but I only use the darkest one as I did not like the result from the others.

WizardOne
Are these pre or post dip? I can't really tell at this distance. They look neat though :D Gotta be post dip—their bases are flocked. Nobody would flock bases and then dip them??
