Ok, so if I understand you correctly, since it is not a present day Geisha image, to be PC, all we need to do is drop the word 'Geisha' and rename it 'Japanese Prostitute'?

 

IMO, "courtesan" would work just fine and we can leave nationality out of it.

 

I would love to see Bob do both traditional Geisha with all the robes, and a modern Japanese woman in day-to-day kimono. Oh, and some cute anime schoolgirls in kimonos, too.

I am not criticizing L5R. But it is just a fact that many of the Japanese gamers tend to consider "Japanese-like" or "Oriental" fictional setting and characters created by Americans or Europeans as ..... funny and comical.

I can understand this. Looking again at Japanese manga and anime, the portrayals of western culture are often kind of... odd. Things like the Catholic church, european nobility, western myths, etc. in such Japanese media often look either comical or insulting (although not usually intentially so) to western eyes.
