fieldarchy
Ok, So I have an issue and this is really driving me bananas! A few months ago I hit some random key while I was writing a paper for class. I have no idea what I hit but it somehow changed my overall formatting for word so that my hyperlinks are showing up as text only and not active. This is what they are looking like: {HYPERLINK "www.ironwindmetals.com" \t"_blank"} Does anyone know how to turn this off? It's driving me nuts and I can't figure out how to turn it off. I've gone to the help section several times with no fixes. I have no idea what I did but I don't like the way this looks at all. HELP! fieldarchy
never mind finally found where the "reset defaults for Word" was located. Not very intuitive I can say. Anyway reinstalling all of my defaults seemed to do the trick. I just hope it never happens again.
Dr.Bedlam
I've been using MS Word since Windows '95, and it's getting worse with each iteration. Competition has not been kind to it.

Doug Sundseth
Apple iwork.... Nah, it has to run on real computers. Had you said Amiga Writer, you might have a point. (I actually use Open Office Writer or Adobe FrameMaker or InDesign; I only use Word if somebody is paying me.)
fieldarchy
Word seems to be getting more and more finicky for sure. Some things I like and some things I don't. But having to dig to find "reset defaults" is a bit ridiculous. That should be under "file" somewhere.
Loim
I used Corel Wordperfect for a long time, since it came pre-loaded on the first pc I ever owned. I loved it, loved all the shortcut keys. Unfortunately I am a computer tech, so I eventually had to get acquainted with MS products. I deal with them every day, in every iteration from 97-2007, and they have indeed gotten worse. I feel your pain. On the positive side, with so many people forced to use them, Google is your friend. Open Office isn't bad (we load it on our netbooks), and even Google Docs in a pinch. Moderator TaleSpinner Posted June 14, 2010 Moderator Share Posted June 14, 2010 Open Office is my primary now, though Office 2007 is a lot better than previous iterations, once you get your brain wrapped around the new interface.
kristof65
After adding the sixth computer to my household and trying to decide if I wanted to be legal with MS Office or violate it's licensing, I made the switch to OpenOffice. I don't regret it, and from now on, I'll be using Open Office as I replace/update each computer. The only two reasons I'll be keeping MS Office around are Outlook (nothing comes close to Outlook for intergrated email handling/calendar scheduling) and some of the macro intensive worksheets for Excel. fieldarchy
yup outlook and powerpoint and even MS picture manager are good apps. MS word, excel and sharepoint not so much.
