joshuaslater
Another hard fought game, come from behind, tie. Sigh. I'm happy our U.S. team is playing like they got a pair!!!
WizardOne
Another hard fought game, come from behind, tie. Sigh. I'm happy our U.S. team is playing like they got a pair!!! ". . . got a pair . . ." . . . of goals. As in 2 points. The U.S. team had to settle for a 2-2 tie. At some point some (American) entrepreneur will 'Americanize' this game and make it watchable. It will involve new and improved ways to score—goalposts perhaps, single kicks that would be worth 3 or even 4 points a piece, and there would be no ties—somebody would win. Ishil
At some point some (American) entrepreneur will 'Americanize' this game and make it unwatchable. It will involve new and pointless gimmicks, and there would be no ties—somebody should always win. A couple of minor errors. I corrected them for you. Doug Sundseth
Sorry, but the South African fans and their plastic trumpets have already made an inherently tedious game unwatchable. Random calls (or the lack thereof; see, for instance, Diego Maradona's - or perhaps god's - hand in 1986) by incompetent officials made the Association Football World Cup pointless years ago. Have fun, though.

Yeah, it sounds like the stadium is infested with bees, wasps, and hornets.

I thought I heard (on the radio) that ESPN or ABC had found some kind of (...high-tech/digital audio/computer magic...) filtering to quash or at least suppress the annoying sound? So did that fail? Ishil I stand in awe of your ability to concentrate in the face of unrelenting, repetitive, mind-numbing tedium . . . particularly the matches that result in scoreless ties. ***If you're going to do corrections, annotate! joshuaslater
Ties happen in the opening rounds. That's life. Winners are determined with either overtime sudden death play, or penalty kicks, when the stakes are higher. It's either victory over the Desert Foxes of Algeria, or go home. I'm hoping we make it, but they are a solid team. As for the bee's nest, I think it adds to the challenge.

If England draws, a US draw could result in going to the next round as well, on total goals scored. The US currently has a two-goal advantage, so it's unlikely that draws in both games would allow the English to advance.
haldir
BYE BYE FRANCE!!!! while I don't mind them protesting over that player, I still think it wasn't called for, epically on this stage this size. Might watch the US game tomorrow, but I can't stand hearing the Beeeeeees for too long, give me the stadium chants!!!!
EntilZha
Word. France....what a bunch of whiners. They're well gone from this go-round of the World Cup, and good riddance.

TollHouseGolem
What a great game! We'll see if the lads can keep their composure and give Ghana a little payback on Saturday. The World Cup is "pointless"? I think not.
Doug Sundseth
The World Cup is "pointless"? I think not. Indeed. The refereeing has been consistent throughout the tournament and today's US-Algeria game was no exception. And hey, every game had at least one goal scored -- heck, one game had goals by both teams. The energy is palpable.
