captenglish Posted July 13, 2010 Share Posted July 13, 2010 I am working on a piece that I am using the tanned skin triad for the fleshtones and I just discovered amongst the mess I call a workbench that I have a pot of RPP 19068 sunburn skin. Since I am going for a ruddy, leathery look to the fleshtone (it's sailor), I thought I would add the sunburn skin for another dimension, but I am not sure if this will work and also, do I use this before the tanned shadow or after? Thoughts or suggestion requested, as I may use this on later projects (like a pirate vignette I have on the workbench). Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Might ruin any smoothness you're aiming for. Though that could add it's own effect... I admit I tend to stick with what I know which is lighter colored flesh, so I'm not much for advice on actual colors to use for darker/sunburned skintones... You might take a scrap figure (one that's going to take a bath, for example) and try mixes on it. I've considered mixing the three shades of tan skin, etc with the same amount of another color to get the base, highlight and shadow. The RPP 19069 Suntan is also a bit darker and redder than the RMS tans. YES, absolutely you can use them together, and congrats for being the first to spot that they are compatible! I created Sunburn specifically to match a color that I used to use under my Tanned Skin to get the reddish undertones common in painting historical miniatures. I personally skip Tanned Shadow; I start with a base of the Sunburn and then the next layer is 50/50 Sunburn and Tanned. Then up to straight Tanned, and I just add Linen White from there for further highlights. --Anne P.s. Did I see you started a thread on this on the forum? Feel free to share my response on there."
