This is a list based entirely off of what I own right now, at this very moment, for Icingstead. It requires one proxy - I haven't purchased any of the barbarians, and I'm not intending to - but everything else I have. Ultimately, I think I want to drive towards a list that uses mostly giants with 2 Frost Wyrms. The issue becomes the second leader slot. I'm not sold on using the wendigos in my army, but the Chieftain is growing on me enough that I might ultimately be willing to include him.

Icingstead - 999 points

Troop 1

Svetlana, Frost Giant Princess

Ice Troll

Frost Giant Spearman x 3

Ice Toad

Luck Stone

Troop 2

Hurgg the Bloody

Handmaiden of Keskura x 3

Ice Toad

Troop 3

Frost Wyrm

Troop 4

Frost Wyrm

I'm guessing it will be horribly ineffective, but at least it'll look kinda cool. :;):

It's not bad. You should have good initiative.

I like the Yeti idea, but don't care for the models. I like the DHL Sasquatch, but one sculpt isn't enough. I was thinking maybe I'll use Klocke/Guthrie/Prow Lupines and my Confrontation Wolfen for the Koborles, and use the Koborles sculpted by PK as my Yetis. The PK ones go better with Icingstead because they look just like the were-fox models.

Oh, now there's an idea I really like. You are right on; the new Korbolas PK did would work really well as proxies for the Yeti datacards (right base sizing and all), especially Kosumi. That would even help keep the feel I'm looking for with my builds.

So what do you all think of Deathsleet? I've been considering putting him in charge of a 1k army with 2 frost wyrms and the rest human. The problem is, I'm not sure he's worth his points...

I can say that his Warlord Ability looks better than I think it probably is, mainly because the choice of Elites in the Icingstead army is very limited. Still it is an ability that would work well using Ice Trolls and possibly Oga as well. Now if Deathsleet itself could perform 3 actions per activation that would be something seriously nasty to field.

Oga + Deathsleet + Iron Skin = pretty nasty combination. But then again so is Nadezhda the White + Deathsleet + Neutralize.

Honestly I think on paper it is easy to underestimate just how many wounds Deathsleet can potentially dish out using Spray. With his Mighty and Spiked SA I see Deathsleet as ideally dishing out Sprays on his turns, and smashing opponents with pretty impressive defensive strikes if they decide to engage in melee.

I've played against a 'Monsterous Doctrine' army once previously, and their ability to lock down models using Monsterous fighter is quite effective. I never noticed how many times I break from BtB until I couldn't do it any more. While I like the barbarian models, their doctrine isn't all that cool, so even if I fielded humans I'd still go with the Monsterous doctrine if i was using Deathsleet or Wyrms.

Just wondering is this faction for the experienced players or can a newbie play them? And if so whats a good 1000 point list with the giant king and giant warrior?

I don't think the faction is a handicap for a newbie player. You might actually find it easier to start with this sort of army, as it tends to have fairly high point cost models, therefore you have fewer models that you have to control, and the models you do have tend to be pretty hearty.

Hi there,

only a few thoughts about a mixed 1000P Army with Giants and Humans. As I think the Barbarian Doctrine is kinda underpowered I chose the Monstrous Doctrine. That allows me to field Svetlana via Outrider to have another taunting giant in my list with support ability :)

Overall the list has 3 main guys: Boerogg, Svetlana, Frostwyrm. That's what will make the enemies nervous. Human troop supposed to help out if big guys getting in danger and to counter rush enemy weakspots.

Icingstead - 999 points, Monstrous Doctrine

Troop 1

Boerogg Blackrime, Frostreaver

Oga Snowpelt, Yeti Shaman

Barbarian Berserker x 4

Handmaiden of Keskura x 3

Musician

Troop 3

Svetlana, Frost Giant Princess, Book of Tactics

Troop 4

Frost Wyrm

C&C pls :)

btw. does some1 know when Boerogg will be released? I won't start Icingstead before the model has been released as maybe a lot of other users understand. You can't play an Giant Army without their King O.O

I'll be trying out this list very soon:

Icingstead - 999 points

Troop 1

Deathsleet

Troop 2

Svetlana, Frost Giant Princess

Winter Wolf x 2

Troop 3

Dorog Frostclaw, Yeti Chieftain

Yeti Warrior x 2

Troop 4

Frost Wyrm

Troop 5

Frost Wyrm

Troop 6

Frost Wyrm

Obviously it's all about those 3 frost wyrms. Wanted to see how many giant models I could get on the field. No idea how well this is gonna work...

Perhaps I should drop the yeti and get a group of barbarians in there for numbers?

re: Deathsleet's Warlord Ability:

I think it can be good, but you have to play patiently. It allows three actions, so models with Warcaster/Warshooter and/or ranged attacks are best.

The idea is that right off you're using a Move action to advance to within ranged attack distance, using your ranged attack or spellcasting, then using a Run action as your third to move back out of the way. You use your remaining troops to get in the way as best as they can. Next turn you repeat this on the flanks. If the enemy is breaking and you feel safe committing Deathsleet's troop, then you use this action sequence:

1) Charge into b2b with a single model

2) Melee attack on that model, hopefully killing it outright

3) ranged/magic action via Warshooter or Warcaster

And that gets you double bang for your buck on that turn.

You've got to have a solid list otherwise, it's not like you can use this trick by itself to carry the game, but it keeps your models safe early on and gives them the ability to put out loads of damage later in the game. May even have the added bonus of teasing an imprudent charge out of some cavalry models, too! Nothing like snacking on cavalry that gets advanced too far.
