Here is my progress so far on my miniature for the contest over on the WAMP forums. I think this is the best I have done highlights wise ever, many thanks to Tom Nelson, Meg Maples, and Rhonda Bender for really pushing me to take my highlights beyond my comfort zone, I think it has paid off on this guy! I am two days into working on him now, and he has been one of the most detailed and fun sculpts I have ever painted, even for being as small as he is (about the size of a penny). Comments and critique always welcome.

Great Oogley Moogley!!!!

That is outstanding. As a fellow dwarf enthusiast therre is only one way to celebrate that outcome. If you are ever as far North as Edmonton AB Canada I'll buy you a pint. And hopefully steal some of your talent.

I am green with envy. WOW.

Thanks for the comments all. Shortbeard, if I am ever that way I would love a pint lol. As far as my talent goes, I practice as much as I can and read more articles than is good for me. Then I bug the ever living crap out of painters who make my work look like crap and gather any insight from them I can.. I agree though that the beard is epic, I owe that to Tre Manor's sculpt though.

it is Games Workshop metallics, I basecoat with black, then paint over that with boltgun metal. Then I do two or three washes of badab black and devlan mud to add shading. Then I add a first highlight of boltgun metal, a secondary highlight of chainmail and a extreme highlight of mithril silver. Hope that helps a bit...I learned the process from an article on CMON, I can link it if you would like?

The skin tone is all done with RMS tanned skin triad with the extreme highlights done with RMS fair shadow.

Link would be wonderful! That's quite a process, but the result is outstanding. I have all of those colors besides the Mithril Silver currently. Still trying to get the selection up to where the enamel collection had been.

I agree with warming the armor very slightly. It is outstanding as-is, but is similar at a glance to the beard. A minor twinge of a brown would differentiate it well.

I think the skin is perfect the way it is, and should be left alone. My general style tends to not exaggerate skin a ton however, so it may just be a preference. Look in a mirror, and put a light above and in front of you. You aren't going to be white on high parts, if you are very tan on low parts. You'll have a darker tan in deep parts, and light tan on high parts - like you have done. Perhaps you may see white in the mirror (I would...) but that would be a side effect of being pale skinned. Mr. Dwarf is reasonably ruddy skinned. That's my logic on skin tones - in theory. Managing that on a figure whole different issue
