pez5767 Posted September 5, 2010 Share Posted September 5, 2010 Very clean. I love the warm orange/yellow contrast against the light blue tones. His face is terrific and really is the highlight of the model, as it should be! Great job there. If this is for an army, he will make an excellent general/hero for your forces. A couple of nit pick itmes, if you are looking to push yourself a bit, I would suggest a couple areas to focus on. The base is a bit incoherent. The green flock looks to be added as sort of an afterthought, and doesn't creat much of a narrative. Again, for table top, this is a more than adequate. The other area would be to perhaps push some of your highlights and shadows a bit further apart. His beard and the gold armor look nice, but don't have a ton of depth to them. This is the area I really try and push my own painting to excell. Overall, you did a really nice job. Thanks for sharing your work. And on the axe I like that too, it really stands out and looks like it's shining or maybe even glowing a bit. The green flock pez5767 mentioned does look kind of weird, but if it's moss maybe you could paint it a little. Could make it darker or maybe that lichen colour. Maybe if you wanted to take the flock in the front out and replace it with more of those little 'coins'. They just aren't as prominent on this guy as they are on your other Dwarves. I'll echo what's been said already: more contrast, and that the base is not a display base. The Metallics are good, but the gold does need some more shading. You could also add a little red to the mix to give it more depth in the shaded areas. The base is fine if this is a gaming piece, but I still think it will look fine in a display also. Unless you have mini judges as company, most people will think the mini and base are fantastic. I did want him to stand out a bit, hence the cork raising him up above his rank and file fellows. For future reference though. demonelf3 Posted September 12, 2010 Share Posted September 12, 2010 Well with cork, you get that signature rough texture, so it's sort of hard to replace. I am discovering the wonders of milliput nowadays, and I would highly recommend that (1000 times better than Green Stuff for me). You could use real rocks but then you can't pin a fig onto them. I also remember a tutorial by Mike mcVey I think about layering some sort of putty to create wonderful shale. I'll get back to you. EDIT: Here we are. dargrin Posted September 13, 2010 Share Posted September 13, 2010 I like the dwarf actually. One of the few GW figs that I can say that about. Face is good. I also like the hair and base. What did you use for the yellow plant? I don't partially care for the blue however. This is just a matter of taste I guess but to me I am not sure if that is supposed to be metal or magic.
