Kang
Wow, this guy looks fantastic! The red nose and cheeks are perfect. IMO your cork and flock base is just fine; I guess I'm just not seeing what some people aren't liking about the flock. To me it looks as good or better than many other cork bases I've seen. ...You could use real rocks but then you can't pin a fig onto them... Pinnable rocks! I've found this to be a handy alternative on a few occasions. Each of the boulders this mold produces will at least almost fit on a 1" base, though I sometimes also use them on bigger bases, sometimes protruding from a mound of putty to add a little texture and interest and help break up what might otherwise turn out to be boring swaths of static grass or whatever a little bit. Only thing is, they have flat bottoms, so they'd look a little funny if you tried to stack them or something. I use dental plaster for casting mine since I have tons of it, but I would think any sort of casting goo should work just fine. I've found a couple of spritzes of a jet-dry/water solution I keep in an old windex bottle before pouring plaster helps a lot in avoiding unsightly air bubbles. That, and pounding my fists on the table on either side of the mold like a crazy person for a minute or so right after pouring... Lyn
OMG I have to say that is a beautiful piece! My fave parts are the hair and the blues that you used! Bravo! I think I might have to get myself that piece also! Looks like a fun paint!
