MamaGeek
Yay! I'm so excited! I've been working on something I was hoping to enter, and just waiting to see if I'd get the chance. Yippie!
MamaGeek
Actually, while we're on the topic...or I should say, while I'm on the topic (since I'm the only poster here so far, ha!)... Does anyone know where I can get a 28mm-scale sheep? I've pretty much resigned myself to attempting to sculpt one, but if I can find one, that would be better, because I'm not much of a sculptor. Dollar stores? (But nevermind if you insist on metal or made-somewhere-not-China.) But I have seen knock-off toy farm animal packs that will have assorted animals at various scales. There might be a sheep or two of the right size. ERTL apparently made a 1:64 (close enough) scale package of a whole flock of sheep (for model RR market?) here is:an eBay listing. I'd try my nearest Hobbytown USA to see if they could order it for you if you want to go Brick & Mortar, but it is probably OOP (unless you count the Chinese knockoffs). There might be a few in this kit: Pegasus Models I think I have some 28mm saddled Rams somewhere that were meant as steeds for Dwarvish Mountaineer Cavalry. Or, mine may be goats or ibexes (shrug) but I think they were Old Glory 28mm, here: are some Highlands Ramriders. Old Glory thinks Dwarfs can master all sorts of creatures as steeds. Are you wanting sheep as steeds (for mouselings?) or just as flock members? [Edit]: Check out this online store: Action Farm Toys, they have a choice of breeds in 1/64. I found it google searching for "1:64 sheep" (but, they are plastic and sculpted to model RR standards). MamaGeek
Thanks for all the info! I have checked local craft and hobby stores, but only found farm animals that were too large. I also checked out nativity sets on after-Christmas clearance, but didn't find any good sheep that way, either. I'll check out those links and other ideas you suggested. Thanks again! BTW, I'm looking for sheep in a flock, not as mounts, and I really only need one. I probably have space on the diorama for three, but I one would be enough to set the scene. A lying down sheep would be better than a standing one, too.

MamaGeek
Aha! I found an online retailer (http://www.farmtoysplus.com) that sells 1/64 scale ERTL sheep for $0.50 a piece. The sculpt is not fantastic, but while I don't sculpt well enough to make a sheep from scratch, I should be able to fix up a ready-made into something nice. Oh, and thanks dargrin. Just saw your post. Checked it out, and I think the ERTLs are a better fit for what I'm doing. Thanks, anyway, though. I do appreciate the help! Heisler
Here is another option, although I'm not sure if there is a US Supplier for this pack: http://wargamesfound...d_sheep_gpr004/ And my stuborness kept me at it because I knew there were some other options: http://www.irregularminiatures.co.uk/25mmRanges/25mmAnimals.htm http://www.hovelsltd.co.uk/animals_25mm.htm Edited January 24, 2011 by Heisler
Sarrazon
Hello everyone. I'm new to Reaper's forum, but I love their minis, saw the contest on TGN and wanted to give it a try. Is there anything I should know about entering and the like aside from what's in the rules thread?

Is there anything I should know about entering and the like aside from what's in the rules thread? No, I don't think so. You can post your entry in the Show Off forum as well, if you want constructive feedback. Other than that, I think the rules cover it all. Have fun, and good luck! Inarah
Sarrazon, you might check out last years contest to get a feel for what the competition is like. http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?/topic/38680-winter-painting-contest-2010/ I'm glad this finally got off the ground, I've got a certain figure I think is perfect for it. Sarrazon
Thanks for the link, I've got an idea of what I want to use if I had the presence of mind to bring it back to college with me. If not, I'll need to do a bit of thinking.

The most important rule, and the one that is an absolute, is that you must have fun

EldarCorsair
Photoshopping your entry is strictly prohibited. Even something simple like adding a logo is prohibited. The lighting in my house is abyssmal and, no matter how many lights I turn on, I have to put my pics through Picasa to adjust the ambient light/contrast values. Would this sort of thing be prohibited?
MamaGeek
What he means by "Photoshopping" is fixing up the paint job, changing the background, adding a logo, etc. Fixing the lighting does not count as 'Photoshopping" (it's not like you could tell you had done it, anyway... ), nor does cropping the image around your mini. Kit, you may want to add that to your rule: lighting fixes and cropping are exempt. BTW, IMHO, there should be a minimum resolution requirement for photos. It is absolutely true that small photos hide defects in paint jobs. I think there should be at least 500 pixels per real inch of miniature.
